Evo's get more props than Eclipses... and they're better anyways. Skylines are more fun tho.

How old are you? You live in NJ? Forget getting insured with the evo, no company will insure you. I got a Mustang Cobra under my fathers name and a Mazda Tribute under mine and i'm paying about $8,000 in insurence.

Good luck getting insurance if you are under 26 on the evo. Stay away from the spyder, mitsu ruined the name eclipse when they dropped the 4G63T and AWD platform. Spyder probably wouldn't be much better insurance wise, anyways. If you like the 4G63T and AWD platform, you could pick up a DSM. Granted, insurance will not be the cheapest nor will it break the bank. My Talon costs $125 a month to insure, just a litte more than the cougar costs. Granted, its not an evo, yet it is kinda like one. Aftermarket support for em is huge, and parts are readily avaliable. You could pick up a decent 2gen for 4-5k, yet you get the 7-bolt engine which could lead to crankwalk, causing the need for a new engine. 1st gens have the stronger 6-bolt and does not crankwalk, yet these cars normally have a lot of miles and a rougher body, yet have as much potential if not more than their 2g bretheren. If you want to go fast for less cash, DSMs are the way to go. 4G63T easily supports 400hp, which is probalby more than youre gonna need. These engines respond well to bolt-ons, and have been proven performers. You gotta know a little about tuning the engine and fuel maps if you crank the boost. Without a piggyback system and a datalogger, you can run excessively lean without knowing it and destroy you engine. If you have any questions about the DSM platform, just pm me with a question and I will answer it for you.

Evo by far, but as said, you are going to pay out the ass for insurance (if they decide to cover you in the first place).

Out of the 2, the EVO is the best pick. But I'd try for a 3000GT.

Id say no to both. Go with a old Camaro. Rs z28 iroc-z, On ebay motors they all run around 2-5 grand. When im 16 im getting a 1990 iroc-z. But from the two you said, evo by far. Eclipse is mainly a car you can make look really good but it usally doesnt have the power under the hood. Unless im wrong.

In that case, have you looked at the Subaru Impreza STi? I'd reccomend that above the EVO or Spyder.

Spyders are gay. Get a used 2000 eclipse. Procharge it, aem induction, throttle body spacer, borla exhaust, borla headers, then tune the ECU or get a standalone ECU. Then if you have money get a body kit and lambo doors.

I myself are thinking about getting a 2001 stratus r/t. Procharger, induction, spacer, headers, and exhaust. They borrow a superchips power programer. That would be a badass sleeper.

Or if you feel the need to ryce out your ride get a body kit, spoiler, hood, and verticle doors for an eclipse.

Yes, you are wrong. Wrong by a long shot. These cars have LOTS of potential, $1500-$2000 can get you mid to low 13s, or a possibly a high 12 with a good driver. Of course, the owner has to know how to modify his vehicle. Eclipse also has the 4G63T, just like the lancer. I chose to buy one of these b/c everyone in my town has to have a V8 to go fast. Blowing their doors off in a four-banger will be something to watch. You may think that your camaro is fast, yet watch out for the understated sleeper.

On the other hand, since this is your first car, there is no way in heck you can afford it. Plus, even if its under your parents name, insurance will still kill you. Even with that camaro, it will still be expensive. How about something you won't kill yourself in, a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity.

You could always buy a 2004 ford ranger edge brand new for. $11,000 then put a skyjacker 8 in lift and 35s on it. Slap in a LSD and your ready to roll.

Sorry to be another person to burst your bubble, but I highly doubt you're going to end up with an Evo. I understand exactly what it's like to want a fast, flashy car for your first (I've been there), but not only is it impractical (and expensive!), it's also a waste of a nice car.

Most kids between the age of 15 and 20 will be involved in at least one accident. I'm not saying you're a terrible driver; it's just not a sound decision to give an expensive car to someone who will, according to statistics, smash it up. The fact that the car you're looking at has nearly 300 horsepower and the fact that you "might race it" don't help, either.

I recently decided to postpone my purchase of the '04 WRX and hold out for an STi. The price of the STi has been dropping very quickly, and I'll be in much better shape if I wait until after turning 25 to insure it.

*EDIT* Where do you plan on getting an Evo VII from, anyway? I hope you know someone that's selling already in the states, because importing fees are astronomical.
