Help me choose my car.

I'll be getting a car in the near future and will have no more than $6,000 to spend . I'd be open to any suggestions.

what kind in general, import or american, higher power or gas conservative.

im partial to the older GM type cars, a nice chevy caprice 9c1 is a nice car with alot of power behind it is really nice, but has not so good gas mileage, maybe 15-17 miles per gallon.

Make/model makes no difference to me, but I want something with at least decent gas mileage.

Heres what I would do.

Kawasaki Ninja 250cc. 50-60 miles per gallon. Roughly 2 grand.
Some old Taurus or something. Roughly 3 or 4 grand.

I've heard good things about the toyota camrys. My friend's sister drove one, and the way she drives would have kille any other car, but this thing's still going strong. Plus, decent gas mileage

the old hondas may look like ass, but if all you need is point-a to point-b transportation and a gas sipper, that'll get you there. a bike is good if you don't have anybody or anything to haul around. just remember that if you have 2 vehicles, you'll be paying insurance, registration, etc. for 2 vehicles

wtf monte carlos for 4-5k? early 90s ones go for like 10k....

id say buy a 300zx if you want something fast, or a late 80s 944, those are nice cars for the money. If you want something that wont kill you with insurance, get a civic or accord, they last forever

Meh bikes would probably be a no due to lack of versatilaty. And how do insurance rates vary from car/truck/old/new?

Yeah, he got an awesome deal, it may have been closer to like 7000 now that i think about it, but still, i dont konw how his dad pulled it off. his insurance is pretty high for it though, because its considered a "sports car"

I have a '91 Nissan Maxima, and it's amazing. I get 26 or so mpg, and it hasn't broken down on me yet.

you should be able to pick up a used altima or sentra for about 2500-3000 and they are super reliable and get great gas mileage

Im very very passionate about Cars and I think that I know alot about them. But there is no easy way to say "get this" without knowing details on who you are. So I can just give some advice on what to avoid.

1. Avoid all honda's, they can last a long time, and they do get good gas mileage. But they break, they break easy and they break often. You can make it last but you will end up puting alot of money into repairs. (IMO: If you chose to go with one, DO NOT try to modify it in any way, especially rims, euros, body kit, and exhaust)

2. I drive a Explorer Sport 4x4 and its a fun little truck. But Gas mileage is horrid, its got a 4.0L OHV, and Automatic 4x4 so it gets aroung 15 MPG driving it "rough" and around 16-17 driving it easy. Only problems I have had with it were: 4x4 Electric switch, thermostat, ball joints(from age), brake pads(from age), heater control valve, and the AC. Its got 120K miles and still runs good. Due to my not so Mild driving it has minor lifter noise but thats my fault. And explorers can take a beating, some woman in an old toyota pulled out infront of me and didn't hit the gas sending me into her back seat... MINOR body damage to my car, and her car was unrecognizable. My truck is really good offroad to with regular street tires, and thats with the 4x4 switch not fixed so my hubs dont lock and I dont get much of 4x4 action. I paid $6500 for it 2 years ago and its been worth every dollar.

The thing that helped me the most is that I can just about fix everything on my car. Saved me an assload of money for labor.
