Flip Flopping /rant

Ok, so as a lot of people know, I was a Kerry supporter for this election. Here's how I see it now. The Republicans got their act together, and campaigned well. Kerry did a better job than Gore did, but a couple things still bug me. The Democrats keep putting up charisma vaccums like Kerry and Gore. Honestly, Bush isnt' the brightest fellow ever, but he is pretty damn charismatic... now why the hell do we keep putting up monotone robots against him???

So about flip flopping... on the issues, I understood and defended Kerry on some of them. But the whole... "We won't give up until all the votes are counted! Every vote counts!" followed by the headline.. "Kerry concedes defeat." That's a little over the edge. I think that wins for number one flip flopping/stupid thing done throughout this election. Conceding just saves face value for the party the way I see it... but it pisses off the people who supported whoever. Gore did it too. The democrats (that I support for some reason) are showing that they have some god awful cowardly and glib standards.

Ok, so until 2008 at least it'll be calm I hope. I'll put my faith in Bush, like I did in 2000 and hope he does a good job again. the country can't have this divided state... us liberals/democrats need to suck it up... and just work harder in 2008. Whee doggy...

kerry wasnt a good candidate, if he had campaigned better by not flip-flopping, he would have swept the election.

Dude, you know what? I applaud you for that post. Most liberals at my school today tried fighting everything, but you accept defeat, and do it well. Thank you for understanding and such, and especially thank you for putting your faith into Bush again.

I agree with most of your post, but this election is different from 2000. Kerry was smart to concede defeat. Look at Al Gore, hes noone now. By Kerry conceding he saves face and can continue a good political career. Also, in 2000 the votes were differing by a few hundred. This year in Ohio it was 150,000. Not really the same thing

Muy respect for you. Kerry did the smart thing by taking his actions.

I can't believe Nader didn't win though.

It's not the same, like, reasoning and such. It's the same that they conceded... I think conceding is lame. Even in games when it's hopeless I like playing to the end. Kerry was smart because he still has to deal with the Senate and Bush, and didn't want to get bad relations with 'em. I respect it, but it pisses me off that he did it after saying he wouldn't. Like... he said it for the hype, then when it was time for the execution... he only thought of number one. So yeah.. I respect it because it was smart, but I just wish he didn't say that he wouldn't do it. Wow... that was a lot of "it"'s. I'm tired...

I give him credit for not bogging down the electoral process with lawsuits and recounts, and all that. That is why Gore is a no-body, because he fought the whole thing like a 2 year old that didn't get his way, and he looked like an idiot.

The Democratic hierarchy are not happy with him though. They hired a ton of really good constitutional lawyers and were prepared to sue despite any election result. They spent mucho bucks on this legal team and Kerry pulled the rug out from under them. I would expect that you will see a different Democratic Senator from Mass in 2006.

However, I would also say that this is indicative of what kind of Presidency that Kerry would have put forth. All talk, and when the defecation collided with the oscilating atmospheric propulsion device, then he would change his mind and do something entirely different.

Anyway. Nice post. Very reasonable, and I commend you for your spirit of cooperation and putting the good of the country over partisan politics.

Actually I don't see that as a flip flop at least not on Kerry's part. Edwards was the one that said that I believe. Edwards was prepared to fight till the death over this. And Kerry did the right thing by admitting he lost the election. I gotta give him props for that.
The thing that I don't understand is that Kerry lost the election fair and square. There were no "butterfly ballots" or anything of the sort that could have messed with the counting of votes. And the Supreme Court didn't have to interveine. But people like Edwards and others in the Democratic party were prepared to fight no matter the outcome. In 2000 Gore lost all kinds of repsect for himself and the Democratic party by acting the way he did. Kerry was the one who saved face and the Democrats got some of that respect back.

Now it's time to focus on uniting this country. We may not agree politically but we should support each other and the President as Americans. These are dire times and we need to be there for our country.

first of all, don't say "bush isnt the brightest fellow ever" because he is actually very smart. bachelors and master degrees were gotten at harvard and i think yale, and on top of this he was an airforce fighter pilot. you cant just become a fighter pilot- you have to be top of the line smart and you have to have had awesome grades.

but yea nice post, i think kerry saved face by conceading though- atleast he isnt nationally hated now

or a father who'se a senator.....

Anyway, the consensus among the politics staff at college is that though Keery campaigned well, and took Bush right to the brink of defeat, this simply prompted a greater mobilision of the religious right. So, instead of a high turnout favoring the democrats as it would have done pre-Bush, it actually favored the Republics.

As for flip flopping, Kerry's team probably went with the idea of fighting the ohio thing because it felt like a repeat of florida in 2000. However, once they'd slept on it a little and crunched the numbers, it became obvious that there was simply no mathematical way that the Democrats could pull it out the fire.

all the votes are going to be counted kerry just realized though that there was a chance of him winning but the % was very slim and nearly impossible, thats why he conceded. Thats why he conceded, the votes still have to be counted.
