Wrestling season

Alright fellas, wrestling season started today and jesus christ i forgot how much work this was.

Things i need help with:

Working diet.- Nothing to fancy, just something that tastes somewhat good, for ex: a list of foods that i could eat and enjoy and still lose weight.

Before every season i stop at the GNC...*drool* things im picking up.

Creatine
Glucomine

Any other things i should look into to?

Im 235.5 right now and the weight class im trying to get to is 215. Because after 215 it goes to 275...us big guys dont have alot of weight classes

If anyone else wrestles any input is helpful and vice versa im glad to help anyone else.

Also...Any preferance in shoes? I always liked asics, thought about picking up the new split second V's for around 50 bucks...nothin to fancy

Viva la PBF!

Why not just try and get up to 275? That way you get to eat lots of stuff that tastes good without worrying about whether or not it will help you lose weight . Basically just try and avoid fatty foods, anything with significant amounts of oil is a no-no. Protein is always good, because your body will eliminate any excess as opposed to fat and carbs where your body stores it, but don't avoid carbs all-together, because your body uses carbs more efficiently than protein and fat. Eat small meals but eat often. This keeps your metabolism up and helps you burn a lot more calories than you would otherwise. I'd say try and get at least 5 meals a day, if not 6. Something like breakfast, midmorning snack, lunch, midafternoon snack, supper, mid evening snack. Don't eat immediately before bed, because you won't sleep as restfully because your body will be busy digesting. You need that time for recovery. I don't really know what you like, so I won't make any suggestions for specific meals, (and because I love fatty foods )

Spicy is fine, most Oriental dishes should be fine, as well as Italian (except pizza). Your best bet is stir frys and such, since its basically, rice or noodles with veggies and meat. Try and eat a lot of fruit and milk if you can.

No more school lunches, only home made sandwiches and *sigh* soy chips.

The only thing is in Stir Frys, oil is usually used, and the oil lingers so the noodles (or rice) because very oily.

Don't put the rice (or noodles) in the pan, just boil them as usual and then put the stir fried meat and veggies on top, and stir them on your plate. Also be sure to use olive oil, its the least bad for you, and it tastes very good also.

Stay off the creatine. It's not worth it.

I miss wrestling . Our practices were killer, 3-7, for the last hour we ran straight sprints. Just be sure to eat a good diet and wear a sweater when it's cold after or you'll get sick like me. If you want to lose weight weight just eat a little less and healthier and do a lot of cardio.

I wouldn't suggest taking any un-natural herbal (or other type of) enhancers, most of them are proven, after time, to really wear on you. If you're at 235.5 (very exact you are) you won't have to worry about what you eat if you're worried about having to wrestle at 275, trust me it won't happen, unless you go on a serious fatty binge. Your cafeteria doesn't have salads? I remember when I used to wrestle, I weighed a constand 124, it sucked not being to eat much because I was wanting to keep in the 125 class, so all I ate was salad. The good thing about our cafeteria is they have everything you would ever want on a salad, to keep it a little bit interesting, rather than eating the same thing over and over again. Good luck, I guess.

Second day of practice i was 241 Even ( BEFORE practice )
And after i weight 234...7 lbs of water weight lost in one practice

Edit- Jesus christ these practices are grueling...like 3-4 football practices in 3 hours of conditioning. Im going to die!

We run 2 miles the first 15 mins of practice. Then we learn moves and freestyle wrestle. Towards the end the have to do these things called sets. First we do chop and drops 13 times, then we do 13 push ups, then we do 13 sit ups, then we do 5 1 min long leg lifts, then that makes 1 set. We have to do 2 sets towards the end of practice every day.

End of practice we run around a 90 degree room with 20 sweaty kids breathing hard, making it 130 degrees. we run , run , run for about 5 minutes to get us loose, and then switch directions a couple of times to get both legs a chance on the inside step.

Then a captain calls out something, like "Stalk", you try to move as fast as you can in your wrestling stance, Sprint is just a full sprint for whatever amount of times is deemed necessary, Power Skips is taking a step or two and then lunging into the air ( sort of like a lay up ), "Stance in" Is sidestepping around the room in a wrestling stance while captians line up and wrist fight with people who sidestep by them, "Stance out" is facing outside the middle of the room, and if you **** up or fall over or trip over someone you basically get trampled by everyone else. "crab" is just crabbing around the room witch is a *****...plain and simple. "Single shots" are just like a single leg shot, you drop to one knee while pushing off with the bag leg and finishing in a single leg takedown motion, and you have to glide across the mat in a fluent motion or else your kneeds start to burn.

After all that crap we jog some more, so half an hour so far of jogging sprinting and moddified running, then we jog jog jog and a captain calls out more commands. Russian Twists, Push ups, sit ups, These weird pushups were you go down, and move forward in a wave motion, hard to explain but oh well, and then we do Sprawls, a counter used for turning an opposing leg shot into a counter takedown. You throw your legs back and lend on there neck/head/upper back with your hip, and put all your weight into the drop...

Wow Wrestling is a *****.

And i forgot to tell you that our super heavy weight (275) graduates, and im the next biggest kid who isnt a senior...****

I actually don't wrestle, I just have a Bachelor's degree in the science of kinesiology. I could get my girlfriend to post her advice too if you want, she has the same degree and is now studying physio.

CREATINE???? not if your tryin to lose weight, for somone as big as you (no offense) i would do the carb diet, eat all the meat you want n cut out the carbs, you'll lose weight real quick.

Second thing i dont wanna hear any of you complaining bout practices until you've gone to the barn in NE Ohio, the toughest place to wrestle

Meh ill save the creatine for next year when i either wrestle 275 or not wrestle at all.

I dont like the Atkins diet, people took it way out of hand. It was originally a diet to use for large people if they needed to lose weight for a surgery (Specifically CArdiac Surgery)...all of a sudden everyone is using it, my friends dad did it. He lost alot of weight but eventually got sick. You cant just cut out carbs, you need a balance of everything.

Very true. You may not know that while your body can use a number of different sources from which to derive energy, your brain is only capable of using glucose for energy, which is derived from carbohydrates. This is why a lot of people on the Atkins diet experience a lot of headaches; their brain is starving for energy. There is a safer way to lose weight that is just as effective, I call it exercise.

thats not what the atkins diet is. Everyone thinks thats what it is, but really the amount of carbs you consume is proportional to the amount of exercise you do. So if you are using the atkins diet and you excercise alot you just reduce the amount of carbs

but then a bunch of fat people saw this and said "i just wont eat any cabs and will continue watching tv all day and eating chicken wings"

and they got sick becuase that is unhealthy. tbut the atkins diet is not.
