Iraq

One of the teachers from my school got back from Iraq a couple of weeks ago and he talked about some stuff today...

He said we will be in iraq for atleast ten more years and that they have permanate stations already in quate(sp?)

said they will probly have a draft in 2-3 years and that he hopes they will

he was the head of the second largest camp in quate(sp?once again) so he knows what hes talking about

here are some culture dealies...

he said there gov. gives them the equivalent to $80,000 a year for doing nothing(oil cash)

when a man marries a women gov. gives them $300,000 to buy a house

patting a women on the back is rape and is punishable only by death

he took a pic of a "small" house and it looked like a hotel...it was huge

got a bunch more but i gtg...

yeah its crazy over there. i don't see us having a major major role military wise there for nearly that long tho. btw, its spelled kuwait. our school resource officer(old one) is a demolitions expert for the army. this makes his second time there. he was in the army back during the gulf war so iraq is nothing new to him.

Yeah, things are a lot different over there. I can't even imagine how it was with Suddam ruling.

Also, I gotta disagree with the draft thing. I doubt it will happen, and I hope it doesn't.

I don't think we'd need a draft. My algebra teacher's son came back after he was in an explosion and he said they we're handling it ok there.

our military can hold its own. gotta say tho, they need some help on their troop distributions across the globe. they have tons of people where they aren't needed.

there were also subways, hardees, mcdonals ect. on camp

he said the sandstorms were just like in the movies(mummy, hidalgo) the sun would rise orange and it would come over a hill.

he said it felt like gravel, and would last 2hrs to 3-4days and the worst would blow 60-80mph

he said they had to travel though it though

civilans cant carry guns ect. and they drive crazy...they will run over you if your in the way

Read Generation Kill by Evan Wright. It gave me anew perspective of what is going on over there. He didn't leave out any details, and didn't censor ****. He was imbedded witht he First Recon when they first entered. It showed me what kinda things were going on over there, the general mentality of a lot of soldiers, the callousness of a lot of our guys about civilians and the countryside, and the incompetence of some of the leaders out there. Now I'm not saying everything there is bad... it does show a lot of really genuinly good things too. But it really does show what goes on over there pretty non-biasedly. It's just like a biography of the author in Iraq. It's crazy.

Iraq's a scary place man.

This guy said one of the soilders killed himself...he was only 19 and was "a very good soilder". He took a m16 and shot himself under the jaw; he was in the front of the church and it blew hair and peices of his skull/brain all the way to the back.

agreed...its ****ing war guys. Vietnam was IMMENSLEY worse than this so was any of the world war's. ****, ANY war was worse than this one (except mabye the spanish american war). Our forces our spread too thin across the globe but im sure that if our president acts on this, there will not be a draft. I think the original poster is talking about the culture of kuait...which is more americanized compared to the culture of iraq.

There will NOT BE A DRAFT unless we ALSO GO TO WAR with Iran or Korea AT THE SAME TIME.

People forget that the reason we had a draft with Vietnam or Korea was that "certain politians" lowered the size of our military to super-small amounts.
But, ever since Reagan, our military has been VERY large.

But.... 10 years sounds likely. Remember when Clinton said we would only be in Bosnia for 6 months?? and 9 years later we are still there. There is alot to do in Iraq. Its important to remember that the goal of a democracy in Iraq is to hopefully stabilize the region. It may not happen, and things might get worse, but regardless it will take a while.

i agree...but i think that we can pull a major part of the military out of iraq in about 3-5 years.

We did almost the same thing in Afghanistan.. WEnt in, beat the pulp out of a regime, and only the rogue wackos were left. WE're still in Afghanistan.

I think we'll be there for a few more years.

As for north Korea.. So what if they're communist. As long as they don't hurt anyon, THEN we should rip them a enw asshole or ten

as long as they don't hurt anyone.....THEN we should rip them a new asshole or ten.

so if a government just holds a different format then ours we should destroy them regardless of there human rights problems or lack of problems as you say.

moral of the story...you suck

north korea is terrible at life. there people are starving and there leader is short. gw is gonna flip a tit when he can finally find nk on the map.

There won't be a draft. The reason some of the guys that have already gone for 12-18 months are going for another 12-18 months, is mainly so we do not have to draft.

They havnt hurt anyone? Are you kidding?

Kim Sung has consistently been listed as the "WORLDS WORST LEADER" for the last 10 years (according to US NEWS). Starves his own people, and has threatened CONSTANTLY to attack South Korea.
KIm Sung is obviously insane, but the big problem is he has nukes, and a massive army. We can not just "go in there, and wipe them out in a couple days" like Iraq.

Ghost Recon 2! They got upset over that game.

If they make one wrong move.. Bam.. But do you think that war would be a 'popular war', or do you think the rest of the world would help? I know South Korea would! I've got a buddy of mine who lives in Seoul, just got back from Iraq this summer. He was tellign me all sorts of stories and stuff.

Im affraid of that war. he has no honor. I know it will happen while I am in service and I sure I will end up going and its pretty scary to think that this crazy dude with chemical and nuclear weapons who has no fear for his own people is in a position to do so much harm.

you think that north korea is bad? What about south korea. Right across the border there are soldiers who have been there for 3, 4 or 5 years. Think about it....if you were a single man living in a forigen country for 5 years what would you do. There's rape, murder, and other horrible things going on that doesn't make the news in that country. There's slums ALL over the place and if NK WAS to invade SK...well the troops over there would be to busy drinking, getting high, and ****ing all the women over there to fight. Think im lying? My teacher LIVED in SK for 20 years

If something happens with North Korea the U.S. will not be the ones to start it. North Korea is an ally of China. Both China and North Korea are communist countries. China has the capability to produce an even larger army than North Korea. This is a war that the US cannot fight alone if it were to happen. We would need the full cooperation of our allies. Otherwise I'm pretty sure that there would be a draft.
