Thoughts on this 1987 c/10

I've been looking for a car/truck lately, and I really like this c/10 I came across. It's within my price range, looks great, and actually has some power under the hood unlike my current truck. What I'm worried about is insurance. If it's registered in my parents' names, how much do you think it will be for a 16 year old? It will most likely have full coverage, and it will be from state farm. Also, any other suggestions for a car under 3500?

I have an '88 K5, and the insurance is ~$250 a month, and I'm 16. The truck doesn't seem bad, it's got a TBI 350, probably a Turbo 350 tranny, which isn't a bad combo.

You might want to look at Fox Body Mustangs as an alternative.

You can call your State Farm agent and tell them what kind of vehicle (VIN# is even better) and they'll give you a free quote. The whole process takes less than 15 minutes.

slimjim: I'd never drive a fox body mustang. If I buy a car it will be a 91-94 nissan 240sx.

bobide: Don't post in the auto forum if you know nothing about cars. Do the math, if this truck was driven the yearly average of 14,000 miles a year or so, it would have around 200,000 miles. If anything it has low mileage.

allstar: Yeah I'll be doing that today. Thanks.

Na, that's normal mileage. Low mileage would be my K5 Blazer and Jimmy we use for plowing, neither of them have over 50,000 miles (Both from the 70's). Anyway, they are good trucks. The 350 is a good motor and the T-trans is great too. They get beat up plowing and they still keep on kicking. Make sure you check for rust though, the body will rust away to nothing before the motor/trans gives. Happened to my fathers first Blazer, drove that until there was no underbody left.

HA! I laugh in the FACE of having an underbody!

Dooms, do you have any pictures of those trucks? I think I remember seeing one of them with the big plow in some other thread. 50k miles and from the '70s is insane. My RSX-S accumulated almost 50,000 miles in less than two years.

You think that is crazy? We have two Brockway tractor trailors with less then 50,000 miles from the 60's, keep in mind most out there have over 500,000. My uncles Viper is a 1994 with only 4,000 miles, my father's diesel suburban is his primary vehicle and that has less then 60,000 miles on it from 1995. We don't like to put a lot of miles on things in my family. Anyway, here is the Blazer I plow with:

The foxbody Mustang is the absolute best bang for the buck car there is.

take that back.......foxbody mustangs are a disgrace. bang for the buck...maybe but they should only be bought for the purpose of shooting at or throwing things at. ick I feel the need to cry. Why would you even say that the fox box is the ugliest mustang ever and ford should lower its head in shame every time the word fox is uttered.

Smitty's fox is pretty nice, in comparison. I'm not sure about how it runs, but at least it's not the dirt-covered rust bucket that 90% of the other fox bodies have become.

The fox body was definately not the ugliest Mustang ever. The worst is the 74-78 Mustang II's, or the early 70's Grande's and such. And its all personal preference. Personally i think fox bodies are one of the best looking mustangs ever. But hey, chevy never built a camaro that looked good imo.

you may think its a dumb Idea but for around 3k you could probably pick up a pretty nice Neon....go to neons.org and look around. My room mate paid $3k cash for his 99 R/t with some mods already done.

But yeah the 240sx is an EXCELLENT back up choice. One of my old classmates has one, he has a few things done to it and it can go pretty fast. Over all driveability is great gas milage and not bad on long drives either.

But that Truck your looking at has good milage for the year it is as well as their asking price. THe pic shows the body to be in pretty good condition.

I have an 81 Dodge truck with under 70K original miles...picke di up from mt dad for $175 and runs great.....could use the V8 over the sweet slant 6 though lol

I'm actually reconsidering the c/10. I still want a truck but I want something that's 4 wheel drive. If I get a car it WILL be a nissan 240sx, I've pretty much made my decision on that. Ever since my buddy got a 96 silverado with 4 wheel drive I want to go off roading with him. I've been looking at older S-10's, Rangers, and possibly 88 and up 4runners (the ones with v6's). I want something that will be great off road yet still be a good daily driver around town. My current truck is great off road, but horrible on the road, so I want something new with some more power than an inline 4.

I'd love a straight six. My little 1987 22RE puts out 105 horses and 140 ft pounds of torque. The torque is nice, but the extreme slowness on the road just sucks.
