Regular forum members: want your opinions on this one, sticky worthy? Or just keep the link as a reference? Missing anything? I put this in the new player section as it is mainly intended for them

**************************

So, you are new or new ish to the sport, got your first set of gear and that's all you need right? Wrong, go to the field without some basics and something as simple as a loose screw could end your day early.

So here are some things you will need whether you are starting out our more experienced in the sport

Stage 1, starting out in the sport:

Things in the bag:

1 set of SAE Allen keys
1 set of metric Allen keys
Paintball oil
Paintball lube (dow 33)
Tank o rings (size 015)
Teflon sealant tape (plumber's tape)
Duct tape
Pliers
Philips screwdriver
Slotted screwdriver
Batteries

Why these items are chosen

1 set of SAE Allen keys
1 set of metric Allen keys

Many times your marker will come with a set of Allen keys but these are often specific to the marker and will not include all sizes. Having all sizes is important because if you do something like put aftermarket parts on your marker it may not have the same sizes or may need metric when your marker is SAE. I have markers that have both SAE and metric screws on them. One note on SAE Allen keys, try to find a set that has the .050 size (very small), chances are you will not need it for a while but later on if you keep playing paintball it will come into play

Paintball oil
Paintball lube (dow 33)

Starting out you typically will not need both of these but it depends on what marker you have as to if it will need oil or lube, if you are in question, just make a post and ask

Tank o rings (size 015)

Most common o ring in paintball, used on tanks and typically in most markers. Some markers such as the azodin kaos ONLY use 015o rings for every seal in the marker. Have a handful of tank o rings? You now have a rebuild kit

Teflon sealant tape (plumber's tape)

Always useful for seals such as your braided hose going into the marker or macro fittings

Duct tape

Fixes everything and patches holes in your jeans when a slide goes wrong

Pliers

Got to get those little parts somehow

Philips screwdriver
Slotted screwdriver

In today's market screws are more common on hoppers than markers but if you have a stacked tube blow back (Spyder or clone) the valve is almost always held in by a slotted brass screw.

Batteries

I don't care if you put a new one in last night, always carry spares (assuming your marker or hopper uses them)

Stage 2, beginning to get serious

All of stage 1 plus the following:

Another set of SAE Allen keys
Another set of metric Allen keys
Adjustable wrench
LOC tight
Marker specific o ring kit(s)
Knife or blade of Some sort
Small/jeweler's screwdrivers
Electrical tape
Another pair of pliers
Q tips
Magnet of some sort (not photoed)

Why these items are there:

Another set of SAE Allen keys
Another set of metric Allen keys

But why do I need 2 trbo? Because inevitably while at the field you will drop and lose that one Allen key that adjusts your velocity or that tightens your clamping feedneck

Adjustable wrench

Sometimes needed for a back cap or regulator to come apart

LOC tight
Want those trigger screws to stay where you put them or your asa to stop coming loose? LOC tight it. One of the simplest and most overlooked things in paintball

NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES are you to use red (permanent) LOC tight in paintball, only blue

Marker specific o ring kit(s)
Also, download and print off so ring sizing chart (check a known size or 2 to make sure your printer did not scale it wrong)

I recommend at least a 5x rebuild kit but keep in mind if you have aftermarket parts that they may need additional sizes

Knife or blade of Some sort

Need to cut some macro hose?

Small/jeweler's screwdrivers

Often needed in order to remove a solenoid

Electrical tape

Always useful

Another pair of pliers

Bigger, smaller, one size does not fit all

Q tips
Need to clean your eyes? Very useful

Small magnet
For getting screws out of small areas or just holding them when you put them down

Stage 3: I own a autococker... OK 3

There is one very important thing that is needed before you dedicate yourself to this level in paintball:

A loving spouse

Because let's be honest, once you get here the are only a few things that are going to stop your obsession

1) the Apocalypse
2) zombies (maybe)

Additional things from intermediate list:

Another adjustable wrench
Chronograph
Strap wrench
O ring picks
Needle files
All the o rings and spare parts ever produced (detents are a requirement)
Tech mat (not photoed)

Why are these things there trbo?

Another adjustable wrench
It is rare but I have come across times when I have needed 2 to take apart something like a regulator

Chronograph
Really you NEED to have one of these if you are ever playing outlaw or backyard ball but if you reach this point in paintball you will need to be doing at least some testing and tuning at home. I also recommend some reballs but it is not needed

Strap wrench
Often needed for taking apart a regulator or if you need to remove a tank regulator these are a huge help

O ring picks
I recommend metal ones, I have used plastic in the past and the tips are just not strong enough, be sure to get one with a small hook at the end for getting into tight spaces where o rings are sometimes buried

Needle files
If you have a burr of metal that is slicing paintballs or maybe you dinged the end of your barrel on a bad dive and you don't want it effecting your paint leaving the barrel, file time

All the o rings and spare parts ever produced
I stock all sizes 003-022 and 110-117 to cover just about any situation I come across, my e cocker in specific is so far from stock that a o ring chart specific to a autococker does me almost no good at all

Always carry detents, they will save your day if you are in the sport long enough

Collect screws from old markers and get to know your local hardware store, if you can find screws there they are often MUCH cheaper than buying from a paintball specific site.

Chances are you will need some kind of box to put parts and o rings in at this point, put A O ring chart somewhere easy to use (see top of photo)

Tech mat
Some people use a towel, there are specific tech mats made, many, for some dumb reason, are marker specific and while having o ring sizes on the mat is nice, if you only have the sizes for one marker and own multiple markers it does not do you a whole lot of good

What does trbo use you ask? An Ikea door mat, seriously, it's the perfect size, they are $1.50 and you flip it over and the underside has a nice rubber on it perfect for tech work

Also, bring old, replaced parts with you, the autococker LPR in the lower left saved my day once, I had replaced it with a new one at one point and the new one had a bad o ring in it, I got the field and it didn't work, swapped it out with the stock one and kept playing. Rather than diagnose an issue at the field it is often faster to just swap out the regulator

The airsmith life is not for everyone. While I carry backups I also like the ability to fix just about anything, I have had days where the autococker will not run (because custom e cocker) and my backup gear is already being loaned out, in that case of the dm6 springs a leak I needed to fix it (before I had the pump)

I really enjoy doing the airsmith work though so that's me. Recently scored a ton of parts from a local guy getting out of the sport (seriously, a box the size of a small microwave) I now have a box about half the size of the o ring kit box above just dedicated to screws. Another one for tank bits, one for blowback specific parts and one last one with macro hose, fittings and guages
