etek 3 + J&J edge = >=-(

so, bit of a strange issue I had over the weekend, my wife is awesome and sent me paintballing for my birthday and got my college roommate to come along as well. he was shooting my etek 3. I got a case of GI sports 3 star paint and the etek was making soup of about 25% of all the paint that went into it. I couldnt believe it, dm6 was shooting great, so i figured maybe I went too small on the barrel back on the J&J, went one size up, no beans, still slicing and dicing. about halfway through the day I decided to put the stock barrel back on the etek and that cleared it up right away

so any ideas? why on earth would the J&J of all the barrels have issues? after I got home I thought maybe it was the barrel tip since that was the one thing that did not change on the j&J, there is nothing apparent that would cause this that I could tell

paint was suuuuuuuper small, I was using the smallest insert on my freak kit (what is that? 671 or something like that im too lazy to go open up my gear bag again) and the paint just BARELY would not roll out of it. the smallest little blow on it would get the paint out of the insert. Also the smallest back on the J&J kit which if I remember right is a 675

anyone ever had an issue even remotely close to this? J&Js are good but it could not keep up with that much paint blowing up in the barrel

Please move this to the planet eclipse section.

changing the barrel helped? that's interesting. Perhaps the paint was small enough that the detents were not working properly and the stock barrel went far enough into the barrel to hold the paint in place?

Were you getting barrel breaks, of was it actually chopping paint with the bolt?

The only time I've ever seen something like that is from brittle paint either from the cold or because it is that super tissue paper brittle tourney stuff or bad detents.

cocker barrels, I suppose I can check and see if there is a gap but I kind of doubt this is the case as the back of the barrel should come right up to where the breach stops. and if the detents were not working correctly you would think you would see roll outs after the barrel was changed to the much larger stock barrel but that didnt happen.

I think there were some chops but considering the amount of paint that was blown out of the barrel compared to the rather small amount that was around the eyes and detents when I took the covers off I think the vast majority was barrel breaks but at the very back of the barrel (i had a few barrel breaks in the dm6 that day as well, paint was fairly brittle)

paint was fairly brittle but why would it not have any issues once the stock barrel was put on? it was SUPER small paint and none of the barrel backs came even close to underboring it.

Im glad we fixed it im just trying to figure out why the stock barrel or my DW fibur did not have any problems as well if it was the paint doing it

so i think i figured out what was going on with this, i think the paint was so small that I was using the smallest bore I could in the barrel kit and that ended up creating a step from the breach to the barrel that the paint was then hitting. paint was fairly brittle so mix those together and bam, spraying paint out the barrel.
