questions about pump

I was thinking of getting into pump and was wondering what is better a phantom gravity fed with a 12 gram, or a palmer which I don't know much about. Yet can the palmer be gravity fed or what? Thanks!

'better' is a loaded word. personal preference is what you're going to have to decide on. Can't really go wrong either way, though.

the phantom is a nelson-based marker, and palmers pumps are sheridan-based. they do feel a bit different. palmers pumps, particularly the brass ones, are a good bit more hefty than the lightweight phantoms.

both markers are available in stock class and direct feed configurations. the phantom can be changed from one setup to the other by swapping bodies (which are relatively inexpensive). brass palmers pumps are typically one feed style or the other, though they are also available as 'convertible feed,' which is pricey but gives you the option to switch between stock class and direct feed. another option is to get a direct feed palmers pump with a stock class stick feed that you can easily install/remove.

both styles are markers are great performers, and playing pump is a lot of fun. best of luck to ya!

Playing pump is a beast in its own league. It's like having to learn to play all over again; dont' go out expecting to do well the first few times.

I'd recommend playing with someone elses pump before you decide to drop some serious cash into it

I though that I maight like pump, turns out I hate it, and I was thinking about getting an expensive Phantom too

Not AZN level price, there's not too many electro markers priced at the same level as the Talon.

Wow I've never thought of that! Is there any way I could turn my automag or mr-1 into a pump?

the mag, yes. But its very expensive. The MR-1... maybe but not worth it.

I'm going to tell you to get the Phantom rather then the palmers because its is a more common marker meaning more people know about them. Although both are pretty rare. The phantom is also lighter, which is one of the major points of playing pump. A final part is that the phantom configurations are way easier to do. You don't even need to change bodies, you can get feednecks that screw right into phantom stock class bodies.

Playing pump can be a lot of fun. The Azodin Kaos Pump is a decent little marker for the money. It could be a great, inexpensive way to get started.

The Azodin Kaos is a spyder pump. Its the same basic design as your MR-1 but has a couple mods to the body and hammer to make it a pump. I personally am not a fan of them, my team mate bought one this summer, used it 3 times and it broke. When he pumps it backward, the sear doesn't catch anymore. This is really bad for only have about 2000 balls through it.

After seeing this, i'd second guess the Azodin. Pumps are suppose to be VERY reliable.

that's odd; i see high praise for them elsewhere. is your friend's sear worn already, or might he have lost the sear spring? or perhaps the gripframe needs tightened?

Nah we messed around with it for a couple hours one day. Couldn't find any of your typical spyder problems. even cheacked to make sure the hammer wasn't in backwards (i've seen that before). The sear dosn't appear to be very worn, but we really don't know how it looked before it had this problem. The sears edge isn't as square as other syder clones i've seen so thats what we are guessing it is at this point. He did talk about taking apart the valve/cup seal and seeing if thats not letting gas through but the fact that its not cocking has to be the sear.....
