Q - What is the difference between a pump gun and a semi automatic gun?
A - Pump guns must me manually cocked between each shot. A semi automatic recocks automatically between shots. A player simply pulls the trigger when he/she wants to fire a paintball. Pump guns are a bit more difficult to use than semi automatics based on the fact that they have to manually cocked each time they are fired. Semi autos are simpler to use than pump guns and allow greater rates of fire (more balls fired per minute) than pump guns.

I am guessing you knew all that, but I thought I would just get that for you.
They do go as far as fast, some say they are more accurate, but it really is just the player because he takes more time to align his shot up. They can use regular hoppers, or 10 round and 15 round tubes. Also, some take 12 grams, while others can take tanks. I think all use Co2, unless you would like to put HPA on one for some odd reason. You have to pump before each shot. Makes you a better player, mainly because you become stealthier possibly, conservative, and a better shot because you work on aiming more carefully. They make you a much better player. Also, they are very light if you don't get a hopper or tank, even with those it is lighter than a semi usually.

yes it does. cci makes the phantom, and they make good stuff. not very many accesories for that. undercocking kit, stock, new barrel. if your looking for cheaper, the pmi trracer and aci maverick are both good guns. those run about $40 used. with that, you could get a bottomline adapter, new barrel, stock with the adapter, 45 frame, some other stuff. and if your looking for a pistol, the sidekick stock is good. if you buy new, you have the option of brass barrel, or brass barrel, and spring loaded feed. that is about 65 new.

I also hear the Sniper II is a good pump if you are looking into investing in it. You can get upgrades somewhat easily making the Sniper II worth 500 or 600 alone. I think the best would have to be the Phantom for the price. At least that's what I hear. A couple of good online retailers would be whitewolfairsmithing.com and archerec.com. I personally prefer archerec.com, because it's more "user friendly". Almost the exact same prices, with or without upgrades, 5 dollar difference max with these two companies depending on where you live and what you get.

Why wouldn't one pump be enough?

i think he's thinking, it would be like you pump up the air, like a bicycle pump. or there are some bb guns that you pump like 5-10 times to get a full shot.

-Yes, they go the same velocities as normal semis ( with the right springs, you can get over 300 with almost any gun, even a crappy blowback)

-You CAN use a regular hopper, but there is somethign claled stock class, which you use 12 gram CARTRIDGES instead of a large canister of CO2. Stock class also uses a 10-round feed tube that sits where most people put a scope on a gun. When I first saw a stock class gun I thought it was a scope. But then I learned better.

You only pump for every shot. Your not compressing air. The compressed air comes out of a tank. When you pump, your essentially pulling the hammer back. Ever shoot a revolver? Same principle, but the propellant (gunpowder in this case), is in the projectile.

-Pump pwns

the pumping action doesnt compress the air, pump guns use a CO2 or HPA tank just like a semi. The pump simply RECOCKS the gun, loading another paintball, just like a pump action shotgun.

EDIT: oops, i see alpha already covered this... o well, just making it clear
