Question Marker Advice for a fairly experienced non-tourney player

Greetings all, I have enjoyed looking through the forum here. I am fishing for some advice on an electronic marker.

I have been playing paint ball for about 6 years and, after a short hiatus from active play, I'm ready to get back in to regular recreational play (mostly woods-ball, informal speedball, etc. no tourney play in the foreseeable future).

I have always used Spyders (I have two mechanical semi-autos) and have found them to be reliable markers. I am ready to transition into the realm of electronic markers and would like to hear any recommendations.

Being a Spyder user since day one, I first researched the entry level markers offered by Kingman. At this point I am leaning towards a Fenix ACS, or Electra 05 ACS.

I have been interested to see how many people seem to DESPISE Spyder markers, so I imagine I will get some anti-Spyder bias, but that is OK, I am no Spyder fan-boy, I just have had good luck with both of my Spyders up until now.

My price range is around $300 and I would prefer to stay away from HPA at this point.

All feedback is appreciated.

The ACS markers are really good and quick, but i think they aren't worth it-there's better stuff in that price level for only $50 more.

If u want to stay away from hpa at this point u could get the wrath and come anti-siphoned co2, then upgrade to hpa. It's a good quick gun and can hang w/ anything on the field.

If ur sticking spyders i'd get a 05imagine and buy a $70 t-board w/ beambreak eyes and have ur shop install that. Then get a barrel and a halo B.

Bobide, thanks for input. As for price, it looks like I can get a Fenix ACS for about $200-$225...Wrath for $250. I have never shot a Wrath...assuming standard upgrades (mechanical hopper and new barrel) is it a solid gun? Are the Wrath's features comparable or better than Fenix/Electra ACS?

Thanks again.

the wrath has eyes, and uses a electro pneumatic setup like a bko. It's quick, won't chop, and has very little to no kick. Decent regulator on there also. Havn't shot one though...

I like the wrath personally. I shot one and it shoots nice. You could also just get a spyder and put some upgrades in it and it would also work fine.

Thanks.

Another thing, I have read in several places that a board upgrade is a good idea...from the stock board to a "T-Board." Could you tell me what a T-Board is and where I could find one (online stores preferred).

Thanks a bunch.

We cant link to other web sites on this forum but if you want to know where to get it online you can pm me. The T-board increases your rate of fire and the eyes sense paintballs so their is less chopping in the feed tube at higher rates of fire. I have a good deal on a brand new 04 Imagine if your interested.

we can link to sites that don't compete w/ xpaintball. Like pbnews sites, or specific manufacters.

http://www.scenariodreams.com/t-board.htm

it's a simple drop in board and u don't even need to install the eyes, though its a good idea.

Well, I have been reading a lot lately and I'm now leaning towards the Wrath w/ suggested ups (barrel, t-board w/ eyes, bolt, & grips). I haven't ruled other markers out yet but will probably not go with an Ion...don't know why.

What about hoppers...I have heard good things about the Halo B w/ rip drive, but I don't want to spend the cash if it will not add to the performance of the marker itself. I am not into eye-candy upgrades for the purpose of impressing the noobs and fan-boys. If it doesn't improve the marker, than this poor bastard isn't interested.

Your input is appreciated.

yea the wrath is a good gun to get for around 260, but as for upgrades you dont need to get the t-board because it is capped at 20 bps right now and you wont be able to outshoot that. As for a barrel, you will need one definitely. And it would be a good idea to buy a delrin bolt for it to make it shoot smoother. And as for hoppers, if your low on cash, then you will be fine w/ the viewloader evolution II which loads around 17 bps, and you can get it for about 65, the halo is a great hopper to buy but unfortunately, most good things cost alot of money. If you decide to go with the halo then you should save the money and not get rip drive. All it does is help if your batteries go dead, which shouldnt happen if you use fresh batteries.

A new hopper is not a cosmetic thing..as you reffered to it (eye-candy).
If you want to get a wrath, and expect to be keeping up with the high rates of fire it can dish out then you will need a fast hopper (ex. halo b,evo 2,reloader b).So even though it is quite a fair bit of money, you could get a nice condition used halo b for around 80usd give or take about 10 dollars

wrath w/ a t-board, new bolt (stock is metal i think) , cp barrel, new detents, and grips (though they aren't needed) would rock.

the Halo B is far from eye candy. That sucker can push out 22bps stock and w/ a new board ppl have reached 26bps. Damn fast. A good mod to lighten them up is to run 2 9volts instead-ppl sell home made harnesses or i know a site that sells a adapter. The same site has a halo B clear shells for $103.

No other hopper will be able to give u 19bps-not a z-boarded egg II or a apache.

My z-board will hold it own on the BKO, but halo blows it outta the water.

What about a Q-Loader? I have never seen one in person, but all the specs and reviews I have read make it seem to be quite an upgrade. I especially like the low profile it gives you.

>>Bobide, you recommended new detents...any particular reason? Is there a specific detent you would suggest?

Thank's all

For $300, I would defitnally go Ion... There good and have eyes. Overall pretty good especially for its price range. With different modes, an eye, and good speed, its worth it.

Out of the new next generation low priced high performance markers, Iíd have to say the Wrath looks like the better deal. The Wrath is basically a timmy, but with a low price tag.

Proís

- Looks cooler then the Ion
- Faster then the Ion
- Same features as the Ion
- Same price as the Ion

I believe it can use CO2, but do not quote me on that one. Besides that point, youíre endorsing another company other then smart parts which is obviously trying to take over the market totally from the lower end markers. If they can sue Tippmann, Kingman, and every other company out there, then why not undercut them from the market? Doesnít bother me though, forces other companies to rival them in price! Itís a win win kinda thing.

Back on track though, go with the better deal. Stay away from your basic run of the mill spyder, and pick up a spyder with style aka fake timmy aka Wrath.

wrath is capable of being faster than ion but u will never hit 20bps unless u have the fastest fingers in the world. the average to good player will get 13-15 with a wrath and consistent 17s with an ion cause of ramping. Another thing is that the ION is more upgradeble and is from a more relibale company. also the ION looks can be changed cheaply so the wrath may look better stock but not if u upgrade the ION. Plus the ION is more durable because the outter shell is the same as a golf balls and those obviously are pretty tough and the inside is coated aluminum that me and three of my friends can stand on and did not break.
