invert mini, DP E1 and the PMR are probably your top contenders, you will need HPA for all of them though so if you dont already have a HPA tank its time to look into one

If your worried about crawling in mud and so on, then get any higher end marker that dosn't have an open bolt in the back. I've actually seen these get messed up due to mud. Although it was in an extreme situation. I don't think anyone plans on falling down a muddy hill, but it did happen lol.

i agree with trbo. a INVERT MINI or DANGEROUS POWER would be the best.

Before answering you, two questions:

a) why dump the A5?
reason: its a decent marker you are used to; i have never seen the purpose of two paintball markers other than vintage collection. Why somebody needs a "woods" AND/OR a "speed" marker?

b) why not just upgrade it?
reason: let's face it, my first choice for a marker wouldnt be a A5; but you already have it, you just play (for the moment) ocassional speedball, so you dont need uber fire rates or regulated pressures. if you spend half the money of a medium-level doing some good upgrades (forget stocks and optics and focus on a regulator, spring kit and barrel) you will end with something that meets your requirements, spending less, not having to get used to a new marker, and having the satisfaction of owning a marker tuned-up to your specific needs.

Note: he said two key words: CHEAP and DURABLE(at least by description) the minis and pmrs still used cost around 200. From what i see, hes just giving a try to speedball and you intend him to spend so much on his second marker? come on guys... also the maintenance of a pneumatic is way more difficult than a blowback, so not very suited to someone new to the sport.

just my toughts...

of which the A5 is neither, its one of the most expensive entry level markers outside of the milsim brackets, compare a mechanical a5 to another mechanical marker and its more expensive, compare a a5 with a e-frame to another e-framed entry level marker and its still more expensive and since 04 when tippmann started outsourcing to china the durability they had been known for was lost, they are not repair buckets by any means but they are not any more durable than the rest of the entry level anymore

the difference is nothing, a marker that is lighter and more maneuverable in speedball is lighter and more maneuverable in the woods, not to mention in the woods you are often having to travel greater distances so how is carrying a heavier marker for further distances helping you?

Trbo, i know the A5 is more expensive than other better markers on its price range(like spyder electra). BUT, minis and pmrs are still more expensive, and, most important, HE ALREADY HAVE IT. Yes, it wasnt the best first choice, but better work with what you have than spend more in something you dont really need...

And come on Trbo, part of the "woodsy glamour" is camo, stocks and sights...useless, yes, yet fun to use there is the reason people still compares spyder/simmilar with tippmans; the looks will allways win over performance for many of the new players who are here just for the fun of it, not wanting to mess around on fire rates, hp and lp, noids, etc...

Personaly, im in the middle of both worlds. I have a tippman A5(mi father's marker) and a spyder pilot 09, and i use them both. The pilot in psp ramping is my choice for tourneys or some rough play with pros; but the A5, with stock and sight(because i like them, thats why) is my first choice to just lay some paint and scare the new kids at the field. I see it as perfomance vs fun more than speed vs woods.

I think people here only see paintball as speedball and milsim, if you dont like your marker being a barrel and a grip, you are a military freak or something. And for those who say that they play woodsball with their minis, they are kinda missing the point of woodsball; having fun without the need of batteries and 25bps.

thanks for reading

actually the vast majority of players here are rec ball players, but nomatter where you are performance matters so thats why you see so many people pushing performance before looks, they are not saying everyone needs to play speeball, everyone has their own style of play but a better preforming marker for the same money is always a plus. the reason you dont see any of the serious players here saying to get a red dot stock or other of the traditionally seen "milsim" items is because they are useless, they do nothing for performance and take your money. many new players have the idea that like in a video game or in the real world the sights and stocks and camo will help you out but paintball is a beast of itself and they dont. they just add weight to your marker and take money out of your wallet effectively hurting performance

now to the other side, the look. this is the other reason you dont see anyone recommending red dots, stocks, shrouds etc. because the "look" of a marker and what each player likes changes depending on who you are talking to, so me saying go get a red dot just because it looks cool is useless. If you want something just for the look and nothing else then go for it, its your money but a lot of players think that things like a red dot will be useful as well as look cool. if they still want it after knowing its not usefull at all then sure go for it.

personally the milsim markers that have 10 lbs of bolt on crap just look like dead arms after carrying around all day to me. they dont look great to me, i know its a low end blowback on the inside. ill take the mini over a m-16 looking A5 anyday. better yet my dm6, sexy milling over bolt on stuff any day

Well, a cheap speedball gun could be anything from a Spyder to a Dangerous Power. I personally like the Dangerous Power G3. Course, a Spyder Pilot or Elektra (sorry if I mispelled it) might be a good choice too.

And this shows most people's mistakes/stupidity, choosing looks over performance. Besides, if you get something like a cheaper marker (which he is asking for) you really wouldn't need to be messing around with fire rates, and alot of them you still can use CO2 with (although, really, its not like HPA is any harder to use)

Interesting.. considering I play mostly pump... Some people like a challenge, and they like the look of a reality, nothing wrong/stupid about that.

Nono I didnt mean it that way I just meant how alot of people will go "oooh shiny!" and flock to one that looks cool even though it could be constantly breaking parts on them when they could have gotten one with better quality that they could enjoy playing with more than sitting on the sidelines fixing it or waiting for ordered parts.
I have nothing against pump either it looks pretty sweet and I'm actually saving up to start into it

the internals on the milsim stuff isnt any different than the rest of the low end stuff, idk where your getting your info from that milsim stuff breaks more but its not true. it is more expensive to produce something with that look but that doesnt mean its less reliable. everything i can think of that is a milsim marker has a counterpart that is the same on the inside that is not a milsim marker, most of the time produced by the same company

Lol that wasn't what I was trying to say either :P basically what I was trying to say is that if marker A has a sweet outer appearance but on the insides it's a horrible marker, the majority of people will still buy it just for it's looks over, say, a much more reliable marker with much better internals that would give them less headache, but had a less awesome outer appearance. Im meaning just markers in general too, not speedball vs woodsball or a milsim marker or anything.

idk about that, because take JT for instance, they are a relatively small company but they still make some stuff that has a milsim look to it, but you dont see much of their stuff on the field because everyone knows its crap.

It's not so much that there are so many other milsim markers out there that prevent JT's milsim products from being known as it is there products out there that are favored over their products. Least, that's the way I see it.

Currently Tippmann has control over the Mil-sim market. JT simply can't compete right now with them.

Don't shed a tear for JT it is hardly small it was swallowed up by Kee and their stuff is distributed through Walmart and every other big box store you can think of so their products are not hard to find by any means. Trbo nailed it nobody uses JT markers on the field because their markers are low end junk. Their milsim stuff isn't even really milsim they are just low quality basic blowbacks in black with a rail or two. Not good enough products for players that want performance and not milsimmy enough for the guys that want the realistic look.

iv always preferred the look of home brew milsim mods over store bought ones, if your trying hard for a look it just doesnt seem as authentic if you are buying something someone else put together. even if it isnt 100% accurate id take a home brew mod over decked out 100% accurate reproduction that was bought at the shop

elbow grease = awesome
