To buy a paintball pistol or no?

I am wondering whether or not to buy a paintball pistol. I really like the tippmann TPX. I have been watching video's on it. It looks impressive. I just don't know if I would use it and if they are effective?

I currently play a lot of rec ball. I have a tippmann 98 with a stock and some other mods. I play a lot of woodsball type games.

What are your guys opinions on pistols?

If that's what you're into than go for it
I will say that there is a law enforcement guy that I see sometimes at the field, and all he has is two Tiberius T8 pistols, and destroys people

I will also say that using 12g CO2 and buying extra mags can get very expensive, which is the main reason why I don't do it

Not AZN level price, there's not too many electro markers priced at the same level as the Talon.

There are remote adapters for these though, right? I was looking the JT pistol just for ****s and grins. Just don't want to fool with mini CO2s

if you maintain your marker properly theres really no need for one, if you are carrying one out on the field you are pretty much telling people you dont trust that your primary will last through the game

iv always felt they are a fun side project but dont have too much of a purpose in an actual game

The main advantage of a pistol is that it is tiny and you move fast. Adding a remote basically eliminates every advantage you gain with a pistol while keeping all the disadvantages.

I was not looking at the pistol for the fact that I don't trust my primary. I am just looking to find a different aspect of the game. To me using a pistol is like using a pump. It is just a different style of play. I then thought of just carrying it when I play because there are some games at my local field where they have a trailer house that has to be taken. And to me it would work great taking the trailer house with the pistol since it is small and lets me get close and tight and get the gun up fast and shots off faster than my oponents.

I am assuming you get roughly 2 mags off a 12 gram co2? Also how well do the pistols shoot? I mean if you use a good paint mixed to the barrel do they shoot like a normal paintball gun? Or not as good?

A pistol is great if you are looking for a little more variety. A pistol setup is small and light and if you adjust your game to take advantage of that you can have a lot of fun. Pistols shoot the same as any other marker just remember that any time you play a limited paint game invest in the best paint you can when you only have maybe 40 shots on you for the entire game shooting garbage paint is going to ruin your day. In general most of the pistols now are getting at least two mags per 12 gram but that will vary based on the temperature and your velocity.

Ok thanks.

And I don't play like limited paint events. I just was thinking it would be nice for close quarter's game's like the take the trailer games at my local field. That way it allows me to get up close and personal and it gives me the edge on the smaller gun and quicker aiming and drawing and smaller package.

The big thing I am running into is the fact that the pistol is $200. Plus then I will want a holster and need to buy 12 gram Co2s and some mags. I just don't want to buy the gun and not use it.

Have any of you felt the same way and bought a pistol? What did you guys think? I am hoping to maybe get to a local field this spring and maybe someone will have one I can borrow or try to see if I would like it.

If it's what you want, than go for it

I personally find that getting a decent setup costs a bit too much, or that I can get a full sized marker for the same price
that's just me though

Agreed. I would just sell everything you have, keep the money from the pistol, and use it all towards a nice high end.

If pistol or limited paint play is appealing, go for it. I know it's something I enjoy, and I know that I'll likely never again buy a supposed "high end." Everybody's different; do what's fun for you.

I have 2 markers already. I only listed my tippmann I also own a Smart parts ION with some mods which works great and has been pretty reliable for me for the past 3 years.

I think my best bet is either try someone's at the local field or else just try playing a game with limited paint to see if I could do it.

i would actually upgrade to a better gun for 325( which is how much a decent pistol setup is at least) before the pistol.... I own a tpx wtih 8 mags and thats it.....if i could i would up grade to somethign with more r.o.f and more of..idk a threat. there are a few advantages of playing with a pistol that are similar to playing with a paintball pump....it really forces you to move... you cant sit in the back firing 5 pods a game, you really have to move up and find clean shots......i also think people who buy pistols as secondarys almost never use them....its something you either use or dont ( in most cases) but remember whatever you think you want you should get
