D-Day FAQ's

Alright, I've been getting a few IM's from people about D-Day at Skirmish, and what to bring, and what to expect and what not. I'm going to do my best to answer some FAQ's and to explain things the best i can for those newbies that'll be joining us this year. If you guys have any questions that i do not answer, please feel free to post them, and myself or other vets will answer them asap.

What is D-Day?

D-Day is a 24 hour scenario game that takes place in the Pocono's at Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The game starts Saturday afternoon and goes through till Sunday afternoon. There is a break for sleeping around 1am on Saturday till around 7am Sunday.

What are the teams?

There are typically 3 sides to choose from. Allied, Axis, and the French Resistance. Last year there was a new addition to the line up, which was the Tyrell Corporation.

Allied: The allies start off storming the “beach”, which is really a wide open field full of various junk piles that serve as barriers. The allies also have paratroopers that insert behind the Axis front line at the beginning of the game.

Axis: The Axis army holds the beach head in the beginning. They sit back in the woods and wait for the allies to charge in. The beach invasion typically lasts 2 hours. After the two hour mark the Germans abandon the beach head and move back to their permanent base location, somewhere back in the woods.

The French Resistance: These guys are annoying, and basically, hold no real allegance to any side. Some years they fight for the Axis, sometimes for the Allies. Whoever “pays” them more, or sweet talks them. (remember, this is a scenario, you're not a paintballer, you're a soldier. This is war, you make deals, you break them, you lie, cheat, and steal)

Tyrell Corporation: These guys are in it for the money. Whoever pays more (similar to the french) they fight for. Pretty much, they're just in it for personal reasons. Be prepared for a lot of timed missions, and a lot of guard duty.

What kind of game play is there?

Scenario games are mission based. You receive a mission from command, you complete it for points for your team. You can do your own thing if you want, but be sure to try and help out the best you can. You are on a team, remember this. You want to help them out the best you can.

Missions range from recon, to blowing stuff up (bomb cards), guarding a bridge or an area, taking over a castle or map grid, cargo runs, stealing barrels, killing generals, and so on.

What gets you points?

Things like cargo boxes and barrel drums are worth mucho points. (they weight a ton though and they're a pain to carry)
Killing the General or the XO.
Completing missions
Finding money or gold

What ranks are there?

General: The main guy. Stay away from him. Do not attempt to go near him. If you do, it'll make the rag head going through customs at the airport look like a picnic. Trust me on that one.

XO: This is the guy you'll have a lot of contact with if you're doing missions, he'll give you the missions, and you do them. Typically there will be a group leader that talks to him and will take command of the squad.

Spy: The skurge of scenario play. They can either be awesome, or a real downer. These guys have two different sets of ID cards, and will use them to gain access to your base. They will do suicide missions to kill your general, and will give their life to take one pop shot at him. Be very careful of these guys, they're tricky.

Engineer: These guys are a must for bridge missions and for reparing.

Demolitions: Every squad needs a demo guy. These guys are the only one's that can use explosives (cards) given out by the staff at Skirmish.

Medics: Medics, good ones anyway, are fearless, and can heal you at the touch of a hand. Respect these guys, and kiss their butts, because they're going to keep you in the game longer. They can do everything healing wise, except for head shots.

Grunts: There are several ranks that fall into this section, but basically, you're a peon in the mix of things.

What role is for me? The Do nots!

You cannot be on the general's staff, so rule that out right now Mr. GI Joe 12 year old.

Do not, and i mean DO NOT take a specialty rank if you're a newbie. You will only piss off the rest of us that actually need someone that knows what they're doing and is a vet of D-Day.

For the love of... if you're new, and you're a medic, and you leave someone behind when they need to be healed... i will find you, and remove your testicles since you obviously have no need for them.

You're not rambo, don't act like it, don't brag, don't be the annoying 12 year old that i put my size 12 boot up your skinny (or fat) ars. I swear there is nothing that pisses us off more then the kid that thinks he's GI Joe and is the greatest thing since Wawa meatball subs. You're a nothing, you're meaningless in the mix of things. They will not announce your name at the end of the scenario and have people clap for you. The only person that cares about your inflated sense of accomplishment, is you.

Do not hide. If I find you hiding, i will tape you too my back, and use you as a shield for when the trees are too thing for my old butt to get behind. There is no excuse to be 3 miles from the front line and not advancing. (Unless you're French or on a mission)

Do not try to take command if you're not able to make decisions on the fly. Command is hard, there is no glory in it. If you screw up, we all die. Let the vets command. Your job is to fling paint.

Lastly do not show disrespect to anyone out there. Paintball scenarios have the greatest people around. Talk to people, get to know them. Talk to your neighbors in the field back at your car or tent. They're the greatest people alive i swear.

What to bring & wear?

Check the scenario sticky, it's all in there. There's a lot to go over on that one.

Keep the questions coming guys. I want you to be ready to have a blast!!

Sounds like a blast!! I have some questions though.

If you go with a bunch of friends to this event, would you be doing everything with them? Don't get me wrong, paintballing is fun, but its more fun to me when you're doing it with people you know. So if you do like guard duty, would you be doing it with your friends, etc?

Since this is a 24 hour event, would there be any breaks? Lets say randomly if I ate something bad and had to go for like 10-15 mins, would that be possible? Just in general, are there any breaks or times you can go pause out for a few mins?

"There is a break for sleeping around 1am on Saturday till around 7am Sunday."
Does this mean you can't go infiltrating enemy bases in the night and do what ever? I would assume you wouldn't be sleeping with your mask on (or maybe you would?), so that would be dangerous.

How do gas refills work in a middle of a game? Will there always be gas refills behind the fighting? Paint?

"You can do your own thing if you want"
I would most likely just do commands given to me, but what would be things you could do on your on?

What are the rules of you getting hit? Do you just sit on the ground in between a huge firefight? Or can you walk off to the back, and wait for the medic to heal you there? Also how would a game end if the medics are just healing everyone that is dieing? Would be a endless battle in my mind, unless you can shoot the medics and put them out.

How big is this field? I'm guessing the event will be happening at one location at a time and then move to another when that small event is done. Or is the entire field used when playing like a military war game?

Is there a website for this D-day event?

Where can I get information on prices? And if I went would all of us PBFers stay together when it comes to sleeping and what not? I heard there is group pricing on paint, a lot less. So if I went I would be with you guys. Basically what I am asking for is a break down of prices.

Paint, entry, parking and air are what concern me most. Any other pricing info I should know about?

What about when you get out? I know that only a headshot gets you out, but when you do get a head shot were do you move too? Can you get back in?

yes, you do them with your friends. you can split apart if you want, but they will never force you to seperate from the people you are with.

you can take a break anytime you want. just walk off the feild and back to your camping area. the camping is seperate from the playing feild, so you can leave, and then anytime you want to go back in you go and get reinserted.

"There is a break for sleeping around 1am on Saturday till around 7am Sunday."
Does this mean you can't go infiltrating enemy bases in the night and do what ever? I would assume you wouldn't be sleeping with your mask on (or maybe you would?), so that would be dangerous.

everyone sleeps off of the playing area, so during that time people are required back in the camping area.

How do gas refills work in a middle of a game? Will there always be gas refills behind the fighting?
yeah, anytime you want to go get a refill you can, the CO2 things are(or at least were, they may be different this year from what i've heard) kinda out of the way, but there are shuttles that will take you there and back to camp. basically they are in the back of the playing area.

"You can do your own thing if you want"
I would most likely just do commands given to me, but what would be things you could do on your on?

basically you can just go on the front lines and trade fire all day, wander around in the back and head to specific pockets of fire, or you can go back to your command base and get a mission.

What are the rules of you getting hit? Do you just sit on the ground in between in huge firefight? Or can you walk off to the back, and wait for the medic to heal you there? Also how would a game end if the medics are just healing everyone that is dieing? Would be a endless battle in my mind, unless you can shoot the medics and put them out.
when you sign in you get a medic card. everytime you get shot you get that card punched by a ref or a medic. every three punches you have to leave the playing area and get reinserted. reinsertions are every 15 minutes. when you die you put your hands above your head and walk out of the fighting area. sometimes people dont see that your dead so always be prepared for some bonus balling.

Is there a website for this D-day event?

I edited my post putting in a new question most likely while you were writting up those answers.

How big is this field? I'm guessing the event will be happening at one location at a time and then move to another when that small event is done. Or is the entire field used when playing like a military war game?

Also, in the camping area, do you bring a tent or something?

Thanks for answering so fast, lol!

Prices and be found on their site: http://skirmish.com/scenario.html

Getting hit rules, which I just found on their site.
"When a player is hit, he must stop play where he is but he has
one minute before he is actually considered dead. If a Medic can get to him and make physical contact
within a minute, the wounded player can be healed on the spot and resume play. The Medic will record
the healed player’s ID number for later reference. In some games, Medics cannot heal a headshot, which
is considered to be an instantly mortal wound. If a Medic cannot save you, or does not get to you in time,
you will be taken out of the game for a few minutes. Player re-insertion will be every 1/2 hour at the top
and bottom of the hour from a designated point."

Thanks for answering so fast, lol!

The field is HUGE man. You can get lost if you're not careful. Believe me, it happens alot.

The whole field is in play, at all times. Missions are constantly going on, but you might not even know about them. Basically, if it moves, and it's not your team, kill it. Think of it as a real war zone. You're not safe anywhere. So yea, like a war game.

The camping areas are basically full of tents and cars and what not. Bring a tent, but beware, it gets FREEZING at night.

Also a must know is the paint prices. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT pay full price for paint. Be outgoing and grab someone and get in their group for paint costs. It's soooooo much cheaper that way.

As far as camping out together, it's too hard to do. People get there at all different times, and so it's impossible to park anywhere near each other. Meeting up is easy enough, i typically hand out my cell phone number and you guys can meet up with me where ever, when ever. I'm still planning on having a cook out. Bola and i have the grills, and we're going to pick up a few bags of steaks from my buddy that works for Sisco Foods.

Good questions, keep them coming!

All of us PBFer's should get each others numbers. Then we get together and buy 12+ cases. I would love to do this, I have to sweet talk my dad for it. There is no way I am paying these prices.

I believe that you have to pay $5 or something like that for 7 refills of both CO2 and N2. I would think that since this is a scenario, most won't go wasting paint just blasting around at things. My thought is that you've gotta make shots count unless you're bunkered and have no choice but to shoot a ton.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers,
Devilfish

Sorry for the spam posting, but if you have a question that is really about the field and what it supplies, check this link: http://skirmish.com/scenario.html#ion2006

If you have something specific about the scenario that only someone who's played in it can answer, then I suggest you talk here.

Cheers,
Devilfish
