I've never been to a scenario game before, and I'm interested in DoN. It looks really fun, but I have some questions:

1) Do you have to sign up in advance? I see the registration page on decayofnations.com, but I've read elsewhere that you can just show up (walk-on)?

2) Since the event is 24-hours, does everyone play for the entire time, or can you just play for 8 hours or so and leave at your leisure? I live an hour away from SC Village, so I figured camping there was unnecessary. But, if I'm not camping, I probably couldn't stay all day and night :P

3) I've seen people ask about how much paint to buy, and I know this is very hard to answer. I'm a relatively slow shooter and I don't waste paint unless I'm close enough to hit someone/can actually see them. Fitting that description, how much do you think I would use in a day? One or two cases? (I use about 3/4 of a case for a day playing at normal fields)

4) I've heard that parking is a nightmare. What times are the best to arrive? And decayofnations.com says parking is $10, is that for the entire day?

5) I keep reading about scenario roles (such as engineer and medic). Do all scenarios have these, because many forum posts don't seem to differentiate between different scenarios? How is it done in DoN?

I realize these are complete newbie questions, but I can't seem to find answers anywhere else. Thanks in advance.

i got both those by just reading the poster.
Heh, I missed the day-of pricing, but I did see the event times. I was wondering if most people play through the whole event, or if it's more laid back and people just come and go as they please?

I am finally on this site and will answer these questions to the best of my knowledge and post up more information on this event.

You can show up on the day of the event, but it is best to sign up in advance because you can save up to $15 between the pre-reg price and the day of price.

I always like to call these type of events, "weekend scenarios", since the action is not a continuous play for 24 hours. As you can see on the flyer, there are times when the game is active. You can come and go on the playing field as you like (mainly to refill on paint, air and water), but you do have to abide by the re-spawn rules that they have for this event when you get back on the field.

I personally live about 45 mins away, but I am camping it there because I'm already there and since I'm playing both days, I don't have to worry about packing my gear up, going home, waking up early to find parking and setting up my area again. I can just wake up with enough time to get ready for play on Sunday.


3) I've seen people ask about how much paint to buy, and I know this is very hard to answer. One or two cases? (I use about 3/4 of a case for a day playing at normal fields)

My answer to that question for you is a max of 2 cases for your style of play. But I have a feeling that you may end up using just one case of paint. In regards to the 3 grades of paint, this is my suggestion, go with the mid-grade paint. It is a better quality paint and you get 2000 instead of the 1600 for the low-end paint. I was informed by Gio (one of the co-owners of SC Village and Giant Paintball) that the paint manufacturer has guaranteed that the paint will be top-notch this year.

Last year's parking wasn't too bad, but then again, it's best to get there early. I will try to post up a picture of the parking situation for this year. I believe the $10 is the entire day.

Most scenarios do have the typical roles as medic, engineer, demolitions and spy. With DoN, they only use the engineer and demolition roles because players don't like the spy role and in regards to the medic, you are given a set number of "Death Cards" in which when you are shot, you find the nearest ref and give him or her a death card. That ref will indicate a safe place for you respawn and you are back in the game! However, you are only given a limited number of these cards and last year only 4 were given out per person.

I realize these are complete newbie questions, but I can't seem to find answers anywhere else. Thanks in advance.
I try to visit the paintball forums at least once or twice a day and if there are any questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. (I'm on about 15 paintball forums lol)

The Story

It has been more than 70 years since the fall of capitalism, and the age of the internet is reaching a critical boiling point. Social networking conglomerates now wield vast political and economic power, as their ability to influence and trade resources with over half of the planets internet users have made them a world power. The UNA (United Nations of America), victorious in their last world conflict against the combined forces of the sinister oil barons from the EKRON corporation and the United Asian Front, have aligned themselves with the largest social networking site, TELECOM , and turned their territories into police states which are ruled with an iron fist.

Global dependency on fossil fuels has been all but completely removed, and reliance on traditional natural resources such as water and minerals has become widespread, placing a strain on humanities sensibilities. All surviving nations from the last global war, starving for resources, have been locked in a pitched battle over control of key internet elements including social connectivity, economic safeholds, worldwide telecommunications, and resource trading.

EKRON, humiliated in their latest disastrous attempt to wrest power from the UNA, has been forced underground. As a last ditch effort, the Middle Eastern oil barons of EKRON have merged with the United Asian Front military to form a single nation, the EKRON Asia Empire. They have since used what remaining oil assets exist to stockpile chemical and nuclear weapons as well as form new alliances in a bid to undergo a new military campaign that will finally shift the balance of power in their favor. Little do they know, the UNA has similar interests, and the lives of millions hangs in the balance as a result.

Through extensive research and development, scientists from both the UNA and EKRON Asia Empire have discovered the existence of seven "Keys to the Internet", which possess the power to completely reboot the World Wide Web as we know it. Only five of the seven keys are needed to access the global server, and an initiative from both nations has now been launched, with each side desperate to gain control of the keys. The battle for the Internet has begun.

The UNA has started to amass their armies, including the reformation of alliances with past allies from the Old Americas and United Mexico militias, to start their global campaign towards finding the keys. UNA President Jonas Soloman Smith has issued Executive Order 211 and assumed full military control of all UNA forces as a response of his paranoia to the corruption and assignation plots within his own government, as well as his personal hatred towards TELECOM, who he fears is interested in more than just social updates. For reasons known only to himself, the President released an emergency distress call containing a single cryptic phrase, "Is there no help for the widow's son". Immediately afterwards, he reached out to the leading global religious leader, Supreme Spiritual Chancellor Fernando Benedicto, who claims to have knowledge of the whereabouts of the keys and has allied with the UNA forces.

Unbeknownst to the UNA however, the EKRON Asia Empire have taken the lead in the key quest by enlisting the help of Vinton Cerf the Third, the great grandson of the legendary Vinton Cerf, the founder of the Internet. With his help, the EKRON Asia Empire has already been able to locate one of the keys, which they plan to use to remove TELECOMs presence from the internet, discover the location of the UNA's secret natural resource deposits, and crush their enemies in total, absolute victory.

The UNA, confident in their chances of repeat success over their defeated opponent, are planning on using the keys to corrupt EKRON Asia Empire missile launch codes to and establish further social networking influence and dominance along with TELECOM. What neither nation is prepared for though, is that agents from a worldwide shadow government have infiltrated the highest levels of power in both the UNA and EKRON Asian Empire forces, an organization rumored to be headed by someone within the UNA. They too know of the existence of the seven keys and have launched their own plot to acquire the fabled items so that the status quo is maintained, as their plans fr global domination, a cataclysmic event 1,500 years in the making, requires for the balance of power to remain unchanged for the time being.

The search for the six remaining keys will take all nations across every continent on the planet. Whoever controls the keys controls the internet. Whoever controls the internet, controls the world.

More information

There were some questions on another forum that I will try to answer here. I have managed to talk to Gio, the co-owner of Giant Paintball Parks, and ask him a few questions for clarification.

1. For the past couple of years, they have had a volunteer program. This year Jon Asperin, General Manager, is in charge of the volunteer program. For questions and information, please email him at [email protected]

2. In regards to groups of players going in as a team (not in an actual team), I have been told for every 6th player, the 7th plays for free. I would suggest calling Giant and I'm sure that for teams with players of 7 or more, they will do something to accommodate your group.

3. In regards to teams, if you are on an organized team, there is a scenario team meeting on Saturday, June 25, 10 am at HSP. If you would like a team representative present for this meeting, please reserve your spot by emailing Chris IQ at [email protected] and please CC: Gio at [email protected].

4. In response about re-spawning problem at the red archway, from last year. Gio has made the decision that only respawn that will take place at the red archway are for any tanks that will be present for this event. There will be designated respawn points for each army and no player will be respawning at the red archway.

5. For those that pre-register online, those players will get a free dinner on Saturday evening, between the Final Battle of the day and the Night Conflict. Those players that register on the day can pay $5 for the dinner.

6. I just remembered this. This year they will be splitting up the raffle to be held on Saturday and Sunday. I was told that they want to do it that way so players won't be out in the hot sun for 3 hours on Sunday. Plus, I believe the raffle on Saturday will take place during dinner.

I know this is crude but bear with me.



Both sections A and B have been assigned to the UNA army.

However, Section A are tents only! NO vehicles are allowed (the ground is too soft according to Gio). Section B, vehicle and tent camping are allowed.

Section C is reserved for the Erkon Army. Yes, players can camp with tents and/or their vehicles in and out of the speedball area. I've been told that the area will be marked off.

Section D is for VIP and RV parking. This section can also be reserved for paintball teams to camp together.

Section E is parking for those that are not staying over night, playing for one day. The standard parking located near the walk-on registration (not shown) are for the walk-on and private groups.

Just to let you know, the slots for volunteers are running out for the Decay of Nations V scenario, coming up very quickly. For those of you that are thinking about volunteering at the Decay of Nations event, I am posting up some of the information that Jon Aspirin ([email protected]), General Manager of Giant Paintball, has sent me:

Guidelines for Decay of Nations 5: Fallen Empires

The following is a guideline that will explain in detail the requirements, volunteer descriptions, expectations, and shifts for participating as a volunteer for Decay of Nations 5: Fallen Empires at SC Village beginning August 26th through the 28th at SC Village in Chino.

Requirements to Participate for Decay of Nations 5: Fallen Empires:

  • Must have transportation “TO” and “FROM” the event.
  • Volunteers must be at least 17 years old to volunteer at the event. Guests that are 17 years old must receive permission from your parent or legal guardian.
  • Must be willing and able to work outdoors for the event. Please keep in mind that the shifts may range from early morning, mid-day, afternoon, to late night shifts.
  • Volunteers must be in healthy condition with no physical limitations that may impair your ability to perform duties that are requested.
  • All volunteers are expected to maintain maturity at all times while at the event and on the property. There is no consumption or possession of any drugs or alcohol while on the park premises. Volunteers must be in a clear sense of mind with no impairments due to drugs or alcohol. Any volunteer suspected of being under the influence will be sent home and not allowed back on the premises during the event.
  • All interested volunteers will be required to submit the registration form and waiver form for the event no later than 5pm on Monday, August 22nd at the Hollywood Sports Park location in Bellflower. Submissions can be turned in directly to park management at SC Village, California Paintball Park, or Giant Paintball Parks (Alpine and Lakeside) no later than 4pm on Sunday, August 21st, 2011. All submissions must be made Attn: Jon Asperin.
  • If you sign up to volunteer for the event, we expect you to maintain professionalism and integrity at all times. As a volunteer, you will be in direct contact with other guests so it is important that you be polite at all times, refrain from any foul language, look presentable to our guests, and avoid any “horseplaying” while volunteering. As a courtesy request, please be mindful that you will be a direct representation of our company. Have a great time, smile, and enjoy the experience!
  • Volunteers who wish to play at Decay of Nations are welcome to play AFTER volunteer work has been performed.

What are the incentives for Volunteering for Decay of Nations?
  • After volunteering, all volunteers will have the opportunity to play for FREE as you have earned it! We will cover your Admission and All Day Air for the event.
  • If you choose not to play this weekend or if you would like to continue volunteering throughout the weekend, we will award you with Free entry passes to SC Village or any of our Giant Paintball affiliated parks for your services. (Every 3 hours of volunteer work = 1 Entry Pass and Air)
  • If you are a student that would like to use your volunteer time towards service hours for school, bring your appropriate forms the following weekend to management at SC Village. We would love to sign off and verify your valuable service with us.
  • If you wish to include your volunteer time towards a possible school or job resume, you are more than welcome to. After the event, please contact [email protected] for volunteer participation verification….and we would love to provide a “Letter of Volunteer Service” for your resume of future job or college applications and resumes.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to apply for possibly future job opportunities at SC Village or any of our Giant Paintball affiliated parks. The experience you obtain from our qualified staff during your volunteer work at the event will be extremely beneficial to your candidacy and a great opportunity to “Get your foot in the door.”

Volunteer Positions (not limited to):
  • Referee Support: provide assistance to SC Village referee staff that may range from Chronograph Station assistance to Field Support during live games.
  • Parking Control: provide assistance to customers arriving into the park and departing from the park. Assist in proper parking in designated locations.
  • Mission Runners: provide assistance to the Mission Executive. Provide transport of game missions to Generals, XO’s, and paintball units on the field during the game.
  • Role-Players or Actors: At the discretion of management and the Mission Executive, provide improvised role-playing to reinforce the event storyline and atmosphere of festivities.
  • Clean-Up Support: assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the park from sweeping, trash removal and transporting trash detail.
  • Customer Service Support: provide assistance and direction to customers throughout the park in various forms.
  • Staff and Volunteer Support: assist in providing water, supplies, and information to key Event Operation personnel and volunteers.

Volunteers may work multiple positions throughout the shift at the discretion of management. Positions may also change at the discretion of management on the day of the event. The above listed items are only primary positions listed. Additional positions not listed may be appointed by management for overall event support operation as needed.

Again, not all the information is listed here from the packet, but I felt that the information posted here will give you an idea on what the requirements, incentives and positions are for the Decay of Nations event.

Greetings everyone!

I have been contacted by Gio, co-owner of Giant Paintball Parks and he wanted me to pass these items on to everyone.

1. As of today, 08/17/2011, there are approximately 820 fully paid, pre-regs. They are capping the event to 1000 players. What that means is, once the pre-reg count is at 1000, they will close pre-reg. In addition to that, for those of you that are thinking of paying at the field, they may allow an additional 100 players to play in Decay. After that, remaining players will be asked to play on walk on.

2. As noted in a previous post, Gen-X Global is giving away a backpack to those 1000 players. From what I have been told, in addition to the backpack, there will be items given away that will be a total of $250 value. (backpack + items = $250).

One more note, the forecast for the weather at SC Village will be in the mid 90's. Start hydrating, plan to bring plenty of water and have a hydration system on hand to prevent dehydration and other heat injuries.

I repeat this every year and I hope that players will read this:

With Decay of Nations coming up in one week and the weather here in Southern California heating up, just want to post up this friendly reminder to start hydrating if you haven't done so.

The Weather Channel has forecast the weekend to be in the mid 90's. However, that does not mean to slack off in preparation for an intense weekend of play.

To keep up to date on the weather at SC Village, go to the Weather Channel website: National and Local Weather Forecast, Hurricane, Radar and Report and for the city, type in Chino, CA.

Again, start hydrating today to prevent any heat injuries. Drinking only a day or 2 before the event will not be very helpful as the water will, in a sense, go right thru you.

Please pass this on to your fellow players that you know are going to Decay. It never fails that there are many players that suffer from heat injuries, especially dehydration, because they are not prepared or drink alcohol (which is a definate no no)

One more thing, don't forget to make sure your gear is ready and in working condition. Don't want to spend the whole weekend fixing your gear....

Attention! All parking this year for Decay of Nations, for both RV, cars and campsites, will require that you check-in and receive your parking pass before you will be allowed into the parking/campsite area. If you pre-paid for your RV/Car/Camping spot, you will need to speak to Deedee, who will be in charge of the Decay parking lot. She will be able to cross you off the list and give you your needed passes. Additionally, players that need to purchase their parking and campsite passes will also need to talk with Deedee. You can ask any event representative to point you in her direction.
