Don't be talkin' 'bout PbChat until you head on over to the blowback forums...

I remember when PbF first went to the "Blowback forums". Nubs were posting everywhere else because they couldn't find the "Kingman forum" That my friend, was a sad, sad day....

1337 comes from 31337 or 31173 meaning eleet or elite. It started as a computer term when speaking in e-mail. It was a way to kind of code your message, plus speaking by typing in "leet speak" can be faster being you have a lot less letters once you learn it. (which is why it was commonly used in computer games, you could get a lot of info to another player fast) In the beginning it was done almost completely with numbers (anyone remember those little num pad keyboards that you could plug into your computer to be used with your keyboard?), later on more people used symbols as they were added to the keyboard. Now everyone does it slightly different, but it is pretty easily understood and the simple word "1337" easily identifies how to read the jumble of letters, numbers, and symbols. Basically, it was started by a bunch of comp nerds and IBM and has been stolen and used by anyone who thinks they know something about computers. :D
