Hey guys im a noob when it comes to paintball and have just picked up 2 nice paintball guns.. I dont go to competitions or anything like that pretty much for target shooting for me and the wife to play around the house. Im wondering how far im supposed to set my guns for. WhAts the most average distance these guns should be set up for? I dont kno if maybe my tanks were close to empty or whAt but im getting about 50 ft and the balls start to hit closer to the ground. Im using 20 oz co2 tank on my project salvo and a 9oz co2 tank on the 98 custom. To me thT seems really short distance as some people say they get 250 ft. Im trying to sight my guns in and set them up but without the right info i dont know if in doing things right. Can anyone help me set up my gun?

we set our markers by velocity. 300 feet per second is the maximum limit you should set it to; masks are not rated past that. You can set the velocity by turning the screw on the side of your marker. You can also buy a handheld chronograph to show you what velocity you are shooting at.

As you have discovered, paintballs are in no way accurate. Use of sites, scopes, stocks, etc are pretty worthless.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but start up costs of paintball are pretty steep, even for personal use.

Yeah ur right. The cost of getting setup is not cheap. Especially if i wanna switch to compressed air. Right now im just trying to set up for shooting at a target. Do u know what the stock setting is as far as the velocity goes? I have probably turned the velocity out about 1 turn so far

Ok thanks. So im guessing that my gun was set way too low in velocity. Is compressed air the way to go. Is there a difference in how fast the ball is shot from co2 to compressed air ?

so long as you're not shooting at a person, i suppose you could set the velocity to whatever you want it to be.

There's no difference in velocity with co2 or compressed air. Use co2 for just having fun because it's cheaper, and will give you more shots per tank. Compressed air will give you more constant shots and is cheaper in the(very) long run, to fill

Ok thanks. Are these adjustments on the screw small or big? Will it effect the gun with small increments or should i make bigger increments when turning the screw. Sorry for all the noob questions and i really apreciate the help

I'm no earth-hugging tree zombie - but keep in mind pain seems to be quantitative and directly proportional to size....

I fondly remember falling and smacking my forehead on a coffee table as a little effer and bawling my eyes out because "that **** hurt"... now, smacking my head into things is common place...and crying about it? Why would I waste time doing that? Then again - I'm also about 4 feet taller and 150+ lbs heavier than I was back then.

a 68 cal paint round traveling around 200 mph may annoy an elephant, and cause general pain/discomfort to a human...but what would it do to a squirrel?

I ain't calling PETA on you - nor am I going to preach that hunting is terrible-horrible-worthless when conducted for sport... but if you're going to potentially maim a small animal.... get the right tool for the job, and plink him with an air rifle or .22

It was a joke lol. If u really wanted to kill animals around my house id just send my 3 cats out and let them have a ball lol. Numerous times i have found dead moles, squirrels and even birds on my front porche cause my bastard kitty decided to attack lol. But yeah i didnt buy these guns to hunt by any means lol. I just got them for something me and the wife can do together.

Don't take it personal its just we get people on here sometimes that talk about using markers to shoot small animals for fun. Thats not what they were intended to do and we as a group of paintballers want to get away from that image. Its a sport/fun activity that gets looked down on by people that don't understand it and only have heard negative things about it. As players we are ambassadors for the game and need to convey it to the masses as a safe, fun activity.

:) Have fun with your wife... mine went with me once and got shot in the boob and hasn't been too ansy to get back out there lol. I'd suggest a good heavy hoody or maybe look into a chest protector for her.

Sorry if I came off like an overzealous prick. Ya just never know what people mean by what they say :).

Yeah - there are way too many people who are doing things to tarnish the image of this wonderful sport/stress-relief...ranging from Eminem shooting at a guy on a bike in his 8mile movie... to harming small animals for pleasure.. to..well - in this case, imagination can be a horrible thing.

When safety is observed - this sport has less injuries per 10,000 participants than...running (per some likely skewed online statistic)... when its not...things get ugly.

Again - sorry if I came off as a prick. Welcome to the community - we're all here to help...or troll you. But mostly help.

paintball has less participants per 10k sent to the emergency room than bowling. It has held the title of safest "extreme sport" for years and also continues to beat out many of the traditional sports as well
