Does anyone know if they are still showing this on tv at all? My high school Hardware/software class is taking part in the battlebotsIQ (basically a battlebots championship for high school only) and i was wondering if it is still on comedy central or anything. I hope it is.

Anyone else build a battling robot, and care to share any tips?

I haven't seen it on latley... it's a shame though, I really liked it... but, things got really weird after the 3d season, it was hard to follow...

I liked the really small one they made to mimic the little aligators from Donkey Kong

first and second season were cool

then they got new hosts and the battle area turned into an obstacle course

my favorite was backlash (just a huge saw blade on wheels). IMO the wedges were the best and most effective, but they were boring

but i havent seen it in a while, might be some episodes on youtube or something

EDIT: 244 results

got some more info on it today, there are two comps that my teacher is looking at, we saw dvd's of each. one is the 12X12 no hazard arena (actual battle bots, two bots enter one bot leaves). The other is more of a task oriented deal, you have to build a bot that can pick up these foam? balls, roll them over to a trap door, and then have team mates shoot them in to a hoop-type deal, basketball style. you also have to try to cap the balls off with a bigger ball, and have your robot do a pull-up on a 10 ft? bar at the end.

I'm liking the battlebots more, but that'd be harder to make. the task oriented bot seems like it's easier to make, plus it might be a tad bit more fun...

yeah, right. battle bots kick some major arse.

lol got great news today, my teach (who was from cali) knows a guy that is in battlebotsa and he might be able to help us out! this is awesome. also, found a link to the championships from last year, i dunno if they were regionals or what, seems like this one school swept (anyone notice the exact same robot design with different attachments?) all three places.

here's the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bGdYwRxjNU

We haven't started yet, we are still gathering some ppl, (we just got this awesome coder to work for us (he knows visual basic, c++, java, html, lol everything)), i might be in charge of the build itself, i dunno yet. will update once we get rolling.

Update: We just got a $7,000 grant awarded to us for "General robotics" aka the robot. My teach talked to the guy from Cali, i've got his website here:
http://www.roboticdeathcompany.com/

Also, we've got the computer club joined up, and we're gonna get a CAD class to do some 3-D diagrams of this thing. Will post em when they come. :)

Man, talk about fate... long story, i'll shorten it up as much as i can

Last year (05/06) I moved to my dad's house. Moved back to my mom's house a couple of months ago. Anyways, was looking at the robots on battlebots.com, trying to see if i can find "Megabyte" (the robot built by roboticdeathcompany.com). It appears that someone from my dad's neighborhood also built a robot called "The Locksmith". Really ironic, considering that the graduating class for that school is only like 65. And looking at the names, i think i might recognize some of the last names...no first names, unfortunatley, because they all graduated Clarion College before i moved up.

Talk about fate.

time to resurrect and update. robot's name is flipper, for lack of a better one, and it was 9inch by 12 inches. powered by 4 drive motors, a stronger motor (with more torque) for the flipper arm, a 16 watt battery pack, and an aluminum scoop (tried to make it titanium, ran outta time). Went to Southwest BattleBots IQ, took third place.

news article: here
kdka video: here (we were the one at the very end, with the two wheeler on our back)

Actual bot bouts: here

Then, we rebuilt it using a smaller frame size, titanium scoop, and some other slight modifications and took it to the international Robogames, where, out of 24 other contenders, we took second. we had to drop the weight from 15 lbs to 12 lbs, but we just made it. Also, we built another robot for the 30 lb class, named Alpha Q, and renamed flipper Alpha Q Jr. Alpha Q didn't do so hot, but Jr got second :)

pics and specs: here
competition pics: here

also, props to these guys for helping us with the original Flipper robot, and for giving us some free parts.

and last but not least, our sponsor, woodings industrial

Congrats on 3rd place.

Some trivia- The greatest "flipper" of all time, "TORO", was built by Alexander Rose of california.
Before Battlebots, he was a long time member of Bob Longs Ironmen.

only time toro was beat was when vlad the impaler got a luck shot it: toro had his flipper up, and vlad hit the pnuemantics in it. end of flipper.

i bet the pressurized air of paintball helped him build it a bit. i know it helped us out.

True-

He basically used a massive pneumatic ram, that was fed LIQUID co2. THe flash of liquid to has IN the ram gave it massive energy. Most flippers just use the standard 100psi ram.

My favorite though was Son of Whyachi, and the greatest match of all time was the 2001 Son of Whyachi verses Biohazard (probobly the 2nd greatest).

SOW was so awesome that they changed the rules forcing Son of Whyachi into a higher weight class.

Alright *****es, time to bring this bad boy back.

The college I'm attending (BC3, community college) has an electronics club. I am Vice Prez of said electronics club. As such, me and the Pres convinced everyone to build a robot. etc, etc.

Basically, we are building two more robots, but this time of teh VEX variety. More info as I get it.

Edit: I just realized I've been a forum member for five years. FIVE ****ING YEARS!!!! Damn, time goes fast.
