i bought a low magnification scope (its huge by the way) to MAKE me a night vision scope, but in order to put the infrared camera on it i have to remove the lens cover (cuz its green) and i don't feel very comfortable playing without it. So the question is: can an airgun scope lens survive a direct hit from a paintball?

the only real way to find out is when it happens. If it's a concern for you, find a flip up lens cover to help protect it. You really shouldn't be using a scop if you're underfire anyway. At least, not if you have to run and gun.

dont use a scope. its just plain stupid.
Depends on the scope in my opinion. a reddot scope when sigthed properly will help you land distant shots, but no one is going to achieve pinpoint accuracy. I wouldn't reccomend any scope with magnification though, that's a wasted feature as you should be able to plainy see your targets if they're in range. If you want it as a kind of recond device, run with it, but I advise getting some 3rd party flip up lense covers for when you're not using them.

I dont' see a scope surviving a direct hit, or evena side hit for that matter.

My reddot has survived side shots before. Thankfully the people I play with can't land shots on the glass. Now that I've said that, the first shot I take is going to be dead center of the glass.

As i said in my question, im usin it to make a night vision (i cant use red dot cuz it reflects infra-red) so PLEASE answer the question instead of just postin garbage like "dont use a scope" cuz thats useless to me.
Also, the scope i have is for spottin targets and for the milsim look (its a tippmann a5 with m82a1 shroud). i use a red dot to aim. thats why i want to turn it into a night vision. and i DO have a lens cover (the see-trough type) but i cant put the camera while its on and thats why i asked this in the first place.

I think the only way to find out is to shoot it, but it could go either way. I don't see the glass breaking from a direct hit unless the shooter is pretty close, or using garbage paint like Monster Balls.

let me get this right, your trying to look through a night vision scope that are already hard enoufgh to pick out targets on, through a paintball mask which is already hard enoufgh to use in junction with a normal scope? and how is this going to help your game?

did you ever think that maybe people on here have tryed things like these and found that they do not work so now they are trying to save you money?

night games are retarded anyway, unfortunatly it sounds like you have already dumped the money on the night vision scope

and personally im not saying dont use a scope because they are pointless to me, im saying dont use a scope because its pointless to ALL of paintball, your range never exceeds what you can see with your eye.

throw a zip lock bag over it, or cut one up and tape it on, i dont see any way of this being remotly functional, or maintaining much of a milsim look, maybe it can be one or the oth.......no actually, i see no way in it being functional...if you want it for the look then sure add the extra few pounds to it, i dont know from experience but i cant imagine a night vision scope is the lightest out there.

good luck, i hope it breaks, then maybe youll relize people on here are giving you good advise

......so you want to now mount a screen inside your mask? wow this gets better and better with every post, good luck seeing anything on the screen if its 1/2" from your face, and if you mount it on your anvil you call a marker good luck finding targets through your mask

o and FYI, 500g = 1.1 pounds, your adding 10% of your markers weight to it again.

Well this has been fun. :dodgy:

Unfortunately the best answer is that a scope might survive a paintball hit but it might not. NcStar offers a few red dot sights that are warrantied against paintball damage so if you are worried about damage make sure you have a sight that is warrantied.

Trbo323 likes to see how far he has to go to get flamed, so don't worry about him.
My Tasco red dot has taken two direct hits to the lens with no problem. Optical glass is TEMPERED, so if the lens is .125 or thicker, you're PROBABLY okay.
Just to be sure, you can use a lens shade, which you can find at a camera shop, if not at an outdoor supply. This won't stop a direct, head on hit, but it reduces the angle at which the lens CAN be hit.
What the guys here are trying to say is that using such a system to aim will be very difficult, which is true, but for spotting in a night game? It could work, so long as you're not under fire.

actually, i just get a little annoyed when people get on here, ask a question, and then refuse to accept the answer we give them that the flatline is a bad idea, or spending $200 in upgrades for a 98c isnt a worthwhile investment, or scopes do nothing in paintball or night games seem like a good idea but in reality they are retarded and your just fishing around in the dark forever.

the world just works better when people who dont know, take the advise of those who do know

and personally i see no point in giving advise if nobody actually uses it, might as well pull out a magic 8 ball and ask it at that point

I think its fine if people want to play with scopes and whatnot, my friend plays with one(never uses it), its just for looks. I think if people want to spend money on those objects and know the pros and cons they should do so without people flaming them.
But yes, its not going to take hits, people at my field use them all the time, its just for show, some are even broken :)

ya but having them on there for looks is not actually "playing" with them, its like a show car, it doesnt have a purpose beyond to look at, as for the above question he actually wants to use it as a scope in a game, something that has been brought up again and again in different threads, its not just for looks, and thats where he is wasting money, if he knows it is useless but still wants it for the look then fine go for it, its his money afterall but if he wants to use it as a scope i try to show someone that it will not work to prevent them from buying a scope for the wrong reason (wasting money on something that wont work)

anyway, as i said if someone wants a product for the look and the look alone then its their money, im not going to stop them, but if they think something that helps firearms will also work for the paintball world then thats where i step in and throw my .02 in. theres another thread on here about a b-5 mod for a a-5 that costs $600, now if the owner wants it for the look and look alone and has the cash to blow then sure go for it(there is a little more to it than that though)

Its a low magnification (3-12x) mildot scope so it does help ALOT on shooting and target adquiring (mil-dot helps calculate trajectory) but what i want to know but NO ONE HAS ANSWERED YET is if the lens or internal parts will break upon impact (it has taken side-shots so it can survive a side-hit).
