Post here on what virus u have and have people help u fix them. Thought i would make a thread like this because there are a bunch of viruses out there. If u have had the virus other people might have just gotten it so post how to fix different viruses as much as possible.

Norton's personal anti-virus software is a joke. If you aren't looking at their server-level tier of products, you're getting ripped off. The best end-user antivirus right now is probably PC-cillin from Trend-micro, it costs a little more but its much better than Norton.

Plus viruses do stuff to your computer that a virus scan won't fix if you were infected before you installed the program. Some viruses write their own keys into the registry that can effect your computer even after the virus itself has been removed. I would rather walk a person through removing the malware entries on these forums rather than letting them take it to a computer store and have a technician do the same thing for $75+

Two words; "Too expensive."

Actually, if you want to completely avoid viruses but don't want to break the bank you should switch to Linux.

If you're really trying to avoid viruses, do what I do!

Not only do I have the *CORPORATE* version of Norton AntiVirus (that's what happens when your dad is an IT systems specialist for a big company like P&G :D ), but I also have a router with a built-in dual firewall, as well as ZoneAlarm Pro (yes another firewall). It all works great together...Norton, of course, will catch any viruses in my system and get automatic updates for protection against new ones; the firewalls mean hackers can't get through to even FIND my computer; ZoneAlarm Pro, when configured properly, blocks any instance that a program (legitimate OR virus) tries to access the internet or change network settings, so you know what programs you're letting use the internet and which ones shouldn't be on your computer.

I've gotten a virus only once...but then again, that was before I got my present setup :)

Works like a charm, but it takes a bit of an investment to get there. But in my opinion, it is well worth it considering I don't have to pay extra to get some tech support guy tell me that my computer is fried and I have to get a new one

Well, that's what you get for buying from Dell. I build my own computers...I did a price quote on a top-line Dell system, and I was able to underprice them by $750 for a system that was not only faster, but had superior hardware. Dell uses cheap hardware, for the most part manufactured in China. Why buy from them and get overcharged when you can buy quality products for less?

The new G5's start at $2000, I can build a decent AMD-based system for about half of that, including a monitor. Granted, Macs are great machines, but you can do the exact same thing on a PC that costs half as much. And their whole claim that their systems are better because they're running on 64-bit processors is a farce...unfortunately for them, most software today is programmed for 32-bit processing, and when they bring the software over from PC to Mac they don't re-write the code, so all you have is a fancy 64 bit processor running 32 bit applications.

Not only do I have the *CORPORATE* version of Norton AntiVirus
Is that just corporate (which typically is the same as end-user just the license key is valid for more than one install) or a server antivirus? If its a server version its a powerful scanner, but I thought they had to run on a server OS (like NT or 2KAS.)
