I was wondering if anyone has or used the 16" or 14" Deadlywind Carbon Fiber Barrel because I am very interseted in buying one. i already have freak inserts (which is a good thing since smart parts went out of buisness) but i havent seen to many reviews on this barrel before. How accurate would you say it is and do you think it is worth the $90. How does the inside of the barrel hold up to vigorous squeegeeing, since its carbon fiber if u cleaned to hard would it get scratched and how well does the outside handle the roughness of woodsball/speedball. this looks like a really nice barrel and i want to get it but i want to make sure im making a good investment. or do u think i should just stick with my dye boomstick (not the new carbon fiber, the old stainless steel one with an ultralight front).

i have the 14" with full freak, one little piece of advise is if you have the newer freak case (the black one shapped kind of like a football) then dont get the 16, get the 14 because it will just barely fit in that case.

on to the review,

first thing is first, you are not going to see a accuracy improvement over another freak barrel, since you are already using the kit you already have the best accuracy you can get out of it. the major difference is the weight savings and let me tell you, it is very noticable, it feels like playing without a barrel on your marker, seriously, and the other barrel i have is the dye UL (aluminum) and there is a large, noticable difference between the weight on front of the marker between those two.

it holds up just fine to squeegys, they coated the inside of the barrel in.....something......that can handle it, i use a battle swab, they are safe to use on this barrel as well

one little note, on a personal note i think this barrel needs a little break in time, i know that sounds strange for a barrel but when i first got it i noticed the inside felt a little sticky for some reason, after i put a few cases through it and had a few breaks it nolonger felt sticky, not sure if that affected performance at all

it has some decent porting, not the quietest barrel ever but def. not the loudest either

o and one last thing, it is tough as nails, about 6 months ago i took a nasty spill at a indoor course, straight onto cement, my fibur was the first thing to make contact and i drilled it into the cement tip first

it has a small rough spot right where it hit that you will not even see if you are not looking for it, i was very impressed, as i was on the ground i thought it was going to be messed up for sure (i fell HARD)

if you have the money i recomend it, iv been playing with mine for about 2 years, best barrel i have ever laid hands on

One more Question

i just thought of this after seeing my friend shooting his 2 piece freak JR. without the second half of the barrel and it ended up pushing out the insert and scratching everything up. so the deadlywind carbon fiber is a one piece so how does in insert stay where it is supposed too? im guessing there is a nice thick metal part that holds the insert from going down the barrel but idk.

I have one of the older freak kits with 8 inserts. So if you want to get the deadlywind I will sell you the case+inserts for 40$.

i think they just drill it the correct size, the insert fits in with maybe a 1/32 gap between the back of the insert and the back of the barrel. its a very tight fit, doesnt move around at all and there is no way for it to come out the front of the barrel

sorry i didnt see you were looking for the review on the rotor, here is the link
