Warning to those who frequent the buy/sell/trade section.

DO NOT ACCEPT EMAIL TRANSFERS FROM PEOPLE YOU DO NOT KNOW.
even if a buyer wishes to meet up to complete the transaction after paying first by EMT.

Bank accounts are being compromised. There has been a huge rise in EMT fraud in Canada the last few months. Not sure about the US, but I'm sure it could happen anywhere.

Fraudulent buyers are using stolen information to pay for items using EMT's. Items are usually picked up, sometimes shipping is requested. Anyways, the legitimate account holder's bank will freeze the amount of money transferred, and request that the receiver of the EMT's bank account be frozen as well. YOU WILL LOSE ACCESS TO YOUR MONEY IMMEDIATELY until an investigation is completed. I've read the "I got scammed" threads and you guys are really bad at gathering necessary information before you proceed with transactions.

This is more serious than the usual non-paying, or non-sending scam. FBI and RCMP are involved in bank fraud. Plus your bank will be extremely hesitant about protecting you and your bank account. You will basically be alone in your fight to defend yourself.

DO NOT ACCEPT EMT's (certapay) from people you do not know!!!

But if you've read my tips for safer transactions: http://www.paintballforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75468
you'd already know that.

PM me if you need assistance.

Good info.. do you have a source or an article that can linked to give more information? This is the first that I heard of this.

Well done.
source = me
tried to sell a sharp gx 32 cell phone on ebay.
2 different people tried to pay me via EMT and then meet up locally to pick up, which totally sounds fishy...why would anyone pay me over the internet for a local deal?

friend went through same thing. only he agreed and accepted the EMT. 2 days later his account is frozen. few hours later the police knock on his door. he's in alot of hot water now. it's been a couple of weeks and he's even hired a lawyer to get himself out of this mess. authorities seem to believe his story, but the bank has taken the EMT funds back and his account is still frozen.
