My mom owns a firebird, and my friend was wondering how much it puts out? Meaning something to do with a number of how fast it gets up and goes or something of that sort. If you have no clue he said something about the car going as fast as it can with something with the brakes...

I know zip about cars so if any of you have any idea how much a firebird "Is putting out", could you help me out. Or if anyone knows anything about this car could you help me also with some specs.

Thanks.

lol, seems your friends knows no more about cars than you do.

first off, you car doesn't just "put out" like the slut of the high school, it "puts out" a thing called HORSEPOWER (also torque, which everybody seems to neglect). I really don't know how to figure horsepower, something like a horse carrying something 100 pounds in so far a distance, I dunno, doesn't really matter here. what does matter is that, generally, horsepower="get up and go".

as for your moms firebird, we need to know
1) year
2) engine
3) transmission
4) any mods

the early 80s V8s made practically no power (like my car, 155 hp =( ), but the TPI (tuned port injection) made it on-par with the 5.0 mustangs when it comes to stock power. newer V8s are pretty decent, with some trims (Firehawk) modern muscle cars

having said that....

umm. why would u go to howthingswork.com for figuring out how slutty your firebird is? rollin: . depending on year, you may be able to go to cars.com and look it up from there, may be too old tho. they may only go back to the mid 80's.

lol

WHAT?! first off this thing posted by itself haha oh well. Anyways i like the jokes, but thats what he said its called... And true i do not know first hand things about cars at all, but this firebird is a 1999 i believe V8 thats all i know at the second. It's not home so i can't go get any more info on it.

I argued with him that its called torque and what not but he said it had nothing to do with that. He used an example of some little car of mazda make that it had a 13.4 put out number... ?? Unless he had a few of the shrooms the gnome was handing out before the class, that could explain it.

yeah, he's on somethin. torque and HP are the two numbers of "output power" made by vehicles. he need some help. it depends on engine. but go to the research section of www.cars.com and it will give u everything you would want ot know about that firebird. the only number about a car that would be anything like 14.3 or somethin would be the drag coeffecient. or he totally screwed up the rear end differential ratio or somethin. check out cars.com

hardly anybody knows wtf drag coefficient is, people just think that the lower the number the faster your car, and they think that superhuge wings reduce it

I said google because you can search for "1999 firebird horsepower" you come up with a bunch of pages like this one http://www.internetautoguide.com/reviews/45-int/sport/pontiac/firebird/1999/ that tell you that the 5.7l V8 had 305 hp (base v8), and 320 hp (WS6)
