Hey guys! So I have started playing paintball recently and I really got into it and I was looking for my first gun.
I want to get a pump marker because I saw a few people playing it and it looked interesting, and, I'm on a budget and I don't want to waste a lot on paintballs. I was looking at a few online but cant decide.also, I play at a speedball field but it has some big arenas in the back that have plenty of space.
Budget= $200 or less

Glad to have another pump player, but let me start off by saying that you shouldn't want to switch to pump just to save money on ball cost. I personally use nearly as much paint with my pump marker as I do with a semi. Playing pump is extremely different than semi for obvious reasons. You can no longer just put ropes down field and hope to hit someone, you actually have to get good angels and learn to utilize that one shot.

That being said, before you actually decide you want to go out and drop some bills on a new marker see if someone at your local field will let you play a game or 2 with their pump. That'll give you a good idea of how much you actually want to try it.

If at that point you finally decide that you still want to play pump with your own marker look on Craigslist or fleabay and search for cockers. You can find a decent marker for about $150 and snag a hooptie kit from your local dealer for about $30.

The Empire Traccer is decent. Spyder hammer is actually an awesome marker. You can do alot of fun stuff to it and it is First Strike Round ready. The Traccer is to but each round has to be hand loaded whereas the Hammer uses the mag for that. I'm not a huge fan of Azodin markers, they've always felt a bit cheap to me. I usually stick to WGP or System X markers. As far as those markers go though; if the mil-sim style is an important factor to you I'd say take the Spyder Hammer 7. If not only take an Azodin if its less than $120. Otherwise WGP is where its at. Just remember to always test fire to see how you like the marker.

Thanks!

I had these guns in mind

1. Empire Traccer
2. Azodin Kaos pump
3. Spyder Hammer 7

I've heard that spyder isn't the best

The one on top (Marker system X) looks pretty nice but I don't know anything about it. The planet eclipse is over budget

Okay thanks!

I think First strike rounds are expensive so I might stay away from that.

and, what would be an advantage for pump guns over mech and electric. I cant seem to find any

They are expensive but can be fun to use the additional range to your advantage. I played a few games with the Hammer 7 and only took 1 mag of FS just in case I found myself needing them.

If anyone tells you there are advantages to playing pump you should ignore them. Simply put, there are no advantages. Pump guns and their projectiles are subject to the same physics as mechs and electropneumatics. People will argue the whole closed bolt vs. open bolt saying closed bolt is better but its not really true (at least in my experience).

IME when you play pump a barrel kit is a must. Due to the fact that the ball sits in the chamber waiting to be fire means the ball can actually roll out while you're running around the field. Another reason for a barrel kit is that if your paint and barrel bore don't match, there'll be a tiny bit of space between the barrel and ball which will allow air to escape around the ball when you try to fire. This means that your shots will be louder than they should be and you'll get significantly more ball drop and inconsistency than you should.

People play pump more for the play style than anything. Aggressiveness is a must when playing pump. Plus there is a certain satisfaction in seeing peoples faces when you tag them out with your pump.

Okay thanks!

... i'll chime in

i started with an azodin KP. its cheap. it works. and its nearly impossible to break.

built up a cocker pump, smooth like butter.

bought a t2 (out of your "budget")... to be honest, if i had to sell either my cocker or my t2, i'd sell my t2... thats how much i love my cocker.

sniper feels so cheap in my hands.

haven't touched a hammer7 yet
