there are actually only 2 generations, there are 4 versions of the poppet valve in the mini though. Im not sure why but when invert came out with the 4th poppet someone just started saying its a gen 3 even though nothing in the marker except the valve changed.

gen 1 minis all have a 600psi guage, all came with the metal case and the poppet version 1 which had a few issues.

all currently made minis and any mini since about 06 is a gen 2 poppet 4 which is the most current, if its a new mini you are looking at, its g2p4

I'd be really wary of buying one used, and the cheapest they ever go is $200. I don't know if there is a way of discerning generations, if there isn't you might want to think about spending the extra one hundred to have the guarantee of a brand new marker with warranty. If you get stuck with a 1st gen you're pretty much screwed for reliability.

Talk to some of your local shops, Golden State Sports here in SoCal gives lifetime warranties with all their markers at no extra cost, definitely makes some things worth premium price. Besides the fact that buying a brand new gun in case just feels so special

its pretty easy to find a gen 2 mini, the gen 1s were not really out for long and as long as you get a gen 2 you can put a poppet 4 in it if need be. but the majority of minis out there are g2p4 minis anyway. you can tell from the outside if its a g1 or 2 but the only way to tell if its p4 is to see the valve itself

Exactly, $250 isn't a huge surplus to start with, and most of the time markers on CG are ill-maintained and/or broken. Definitely a little maintenance can go a long way and you could have a like new gun, but for only around $300 I personally would rather just pay for the convenience of having a flawless marker...

I know what you mean, but I'm willing to do a little maintenance in order to save hundereds of dollars

OR

I'm willing to spend far less on an older marker that works perfectly.
But unless I know/trust the guy I'm buying it from personally, it's a decently large risk to take. "Minor scratches" to the seller could actually be a cracked UL frame to everyone else.

That just is personal preference I think, I don't really go for the big fat bodied DM's or huge Ego's, they all look kind of gross to me for some reason. :p

I would trust long term members on Paintball forum or PBnation, or of course any pro player selling a gun, but one too many rip offs has scared me away from "Bought this $600 marker + $1000 worth of gear to play recreationaly never did my loss is your gain"

haha yeah. the only time i would bought a used gun I was able to get my hands on it and even shoot it before I payed for it. And thats the only way I ever will buy anything used. MAYBE if Ive talked to the guy a lot, and Ive seen a LOT of pictures and shooting videos. Other than that I just dont trust people, theres too many dirtbags out there lookin for a way to make money to buy their next hooker or some sh**. haha

You can pretty easily tell when someone is making an honest sale as well. If there is a proven recent HD shooting video and dozens of pictures with an honest description and highlights of the faults, I'd have no doubt about buying it.

I'll save the $300+ and spend the $2 on new orings. Of my far too many markers, only 3 of them are ones I bought brand new (and 1 of those 3 I bought 9 years ago brand new). I'm a big fan of buying used. Saving $300 on the purchase of a marker, say Clone VX, that's like buying a Clone VX and getting a PM8 for FREE!! I almost never buy new, in fact I specifically avoid it if at all possible.

there are these things called pictures now a days

everything i have gotten has been used, 3 of my 4 markers right now i got used and none had had even a case of paint put through them in their life before I bought them and on the etek and cocker i saved about $200 each over a new price both of which still had the warning labels from the factory on them

if your smart you check who is selling it and dont just throw your money out there, ebay + paypal works great, you can check the sellers feedback before hand to determine if anything is wrong, and then on the off chance that something does go wrong paypal will fight to get your money back

Yeah i've bought a "v3" mini and stubby ninja tank used. Mini worked fine till the solenoid blew. I trust it would have given out even if they guy hadnt sold it. Kee sent me replacements with no fuzz so it's not a big deal anyways. And the tank, well its a mirror. $100 and its got no scratches and a nice little cover.
