I keep seeing recommendations for them, but from what i can tell, the paintball ones are just overpriced. i was looking at some "sliding' (baseball) ones, or maybe volleyball, do they really need the hard plastic shell?

paintball knee pads don't have a hard plastic shell (the good ones at least.)

I tried using voleyball kneepads that my little sister replaced, but they never stayed on right and kept moving around.
I've come tothe conclusion that unless you're always diving or playing on hard ground you really don't need them; find a pair of pants with padding on the knees and you'll be good to go.

As I get older my viewpoint is slowly changing, Spending time talking with older players is making me realize that eventually they're going to be necessary; for now though, I'll go without.

Since all the fields around me are dirt and rocks I wear knee pads. I wear Alta knee pads over my BDUs, and the stay in place most of the time, but aren't always right where I need them. I'm not 100% sold on this setup and think about PB pants and PB kneepads sometimes. The price for the pants is enough to make me not want to do it though.

I have to agree with Matrix here. I looked very closely at that pair and really liked the design, but $140 is pretty out there. I've never used PB pants so I don't know if I'm missing out, but its hard for me to wrap my head around the price of ALL the better pants out there.

If I had the cash to blow, those BTs would be on my list of things to try out.
