i know its a lil old(a few days) but im wondering what pbf thinks about apple's psuedo windows emulator. Im a bit confused over wether its an emulator or a dual boot and ive heard both.

I suppose it was only a matter of time, if it runs well w/ windows it seems to me there would be no reason to buy a higher end pc since apple's build quality is so much better and with the new intel chips they seem to be better or at least competitive in all applications(at least with pentiums, probably athlon64's too).

edit:

i guess its not an emulator at all?
btw, apples stock went up like 13% on the day of the announcment.

From how I understand it, it's just the ability to boot windows on a mac. Of course, I've already read of people triple booting into linux, too. Sweet.

i wouldn't buy a mac, ever. Not even to run windows on it. They aren't preformance machines, they are a ****ing fashion trend. I've become only more set against apple the more I see them release new stuff and learn about their past. I mean come on, how long did they still w/ the idiotic single button mouse?

why do I say it's not worth running windows? Why would I still go w/ high end pcs? B/c macs are so frigging expensive for what you get. Yes i know they run slower but do more. Especially if you want any decent preformance parts. I'd go build a nice high end rig instead. Apple makes you pay for the pretty while delivering parts that do well and compare to other high end pc componets, just add on apple's fee for being trendy.

-I personally prefer a single button mouse, especially on laptop trackpads(apple has the best quality track pads imo also)
-Compared to what you get with a p4 sony or ibm machine apple is superior in performance(probably not in upgradability though). In laptops i think apple is fully superior. In terms of build quality i guess thats personal preference, but compare ibook/powerbooks to sony/dell/gateway laptops-the pcs simply seem cheap, fragile and clunky.

Ive used a 1st generation imac(family computer, buggy as hell so not a good experience). Ive owned a hand built pc(made for gaming) which i recently sold and bought an ibook.

Just because apple has an actual decent design team doesnt mean that they suck in every other aspect. In terms of price/performance-thats kind of an outdated argument, macs are comparable in value with higher end manufacturers like ibm. In terms of lower priced manufacturers like dell, well dells may be cheaper but they suck for too many reasons to even list. I will admit that the best deal is still to just build your own, which unfortantly isnt been an option for macs.

macs will never be gaming machines, and im sure that thats what a lot of you are concerned about. But after switching(back) from pc's to macs my computing experience is much better in pretty much every aspect.

I think the problem is most peoples' first experiences with macs are negative because of lack of knowledge or a crappy set up.

i did not mean to say they only made trendy crap. Maybe I managed to. You make good points, i just feel that computers offer the higher end parts (if you are willing to spend) Apple does include good parts also, but sometimes they do some weird stuff. . .

also, apple users are funny to me. Watching the mac OS 10 slowly get pulled apart and exploted is funny. So much for "safer"
