This only happens when I open up a port on my computer. I opened up some ports for my bit torrent client, and every 5 minutes or so, I get a taskbar popup that says "a network cable is unplugged".

If I close the port, the problem goes away.

The network cable really isnt being unplugged.

I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 V4.2, which is a poor router for torrenting. Cable internet btw.

Actually, I just closed uTorrent and it seems that the problem only occurs when I'm downloading.

have you tried resetting your router? usually when mine has issues, i can turn it off for 10 secs or so and it comes back to life in full stride.

try using a different torrent downloader, like Azureus.

if that fails, call up a buddy, borrow their router, test it.
