Im writing an article for a class and its about an argument I had with a friend (who is Spanish).

We were talking about how the technology and society is developing so much faster and how empires are constantly shifting with power transferring much faster than it once did. He was claiming that the US was on its downfall by comparing this

roman empire strength = roughly 400 years of absolute domination with 400 more of a lot of domination
USA = 80 years of team america world police

He claimed that since technology is advancing about 4 times as fast as it did back then, that that time also applies to the amount of years one country can so strongly influence the world.

More or less, this whole thing means, Where do you think the USA will be in
20 years
40 years
100 years
200 years

military, politically, world influence?

Pretty soon we will be in a great depresion. Before WW1 we were doing great. We had the roaring 20s and everyone was spending a ton of money and living it up, driving themselves into debt. The war came and we spent money we dont have, causing the great depression. It also didnt help that the banks declared bankrupcy which caused people to lose all of their money.

Were on the same path now with all our national debt and everyone spending more than tehy can afford. This will pry happen withing 20 years, then take us another 20 to get out of it. Then rise to power in another 100 years if we havnt been taking over by then, along with alot of other UN nations.

I'm glad that other people can see that we very well may have some hard times ahead. Unfortunately a lot of these people aren't doing much to prepare for it. All I can say is this: work on becoming self-sufficient. You'll need to.

Most scholars have accepted the fact that our technology is now increasing at an exponential rate. One guy named Kay Kurzweil (who is a super genius) thinks that the exponential rate is beoming ludacris, and by 2100 he predicts that artificial intelligence and human intelligence will be one in the same.

Remind me to never listen to a single thing this guy ever says.

I have never seen a more historically inaccurate post in all my time on PBF.

There will be no "revolution." People are much too complacent with their lives for anything of the sort.
that, and if you've ever read about any revolution in HISTORY, there are certain social aspects that have to exist in society for a revolution to really even occur. depression, dictators, large radical group, some new, yet opposing idea. these are just a few examples, but there's not just going to be a revolution in the US one day unless we're in a depression and the government is killing people or something..

Your history teacher should drink bleach...

First of all, WW1 happened BEFORE the depression. WW2 is pretty much what pulled us out of the depression, but the New Deal projects all over the country helped generate jobs by turning vacant land into parks and stuff too.

well first of all, before ww1, the US economy wasn't doing as "great" as you claim. we almost actually went into a full-blown depression.. the 20's was just cultural and economic boom for the economy. the depression was a world-wide thing. alright, alot of countries were experiencing inflation, unemployment, and other debt from world war 1 long before we ever saw the effects. world war 2 actually helped the economy. every industry in the US was converted for war-time activities. this created so many jobs, increased production, increased trading, increased every aspect of the economy. banks had to declare bankruptcy if they didnt have money. infact, FDR closed every bank except the ones that were still running. a bank cant loan, withdraw, or invest money it doesnt have. people lost all their money because the banks failed, and the banks failed because they invested in stocks and other markets which failed for a number of other reasons. then on top of that, we're struck with inflation, unemployment and a ****load of other problems.
Were on the same path now with all our national debt and everyone spending more than tehy can afford. This will pry happen withing 20 years, then take us another 20 to get out of it. Then rise to power in another 100 years if we havnt been taking over by then, along with alot of other UN nations.
the national debt has nothing to do with the US economy. it has to do with the government. if the government NEEDED to pay back the debt, our tax rates would be sky-high. people aren't like in debt the same way they were in 1931.. its a diferent type of debt. and thats completely false anyway, the inflation rate right now is completely stable and normal. and theres no way to determine how 'long' it woudl take, or how long it owuld take to get OUT of it.. it depends on the economy and the rest of the world.

and where did getting taken over come in? what other country in the world is as powerful as the united states? mabye by size there are plenty of countries that outnumber the US, but the US has military bases in every part of the world, and we use the most advanced technology. plus, if the US were to fail economically and politically, alot of other countries would fail as well.

so forget that you're an idiot, you're teacher is even more of an idiot, because hes TEACHING this to you..

Alpha and Ja basically covered it.

WW1 = 1910s
1920s = Good times (sort of), stock market is "doing great"
1929 = Market crashes, people have nothing
Herbert Hoover doesn't fix the issue.
FDR becomes president.
New Deal, fireside chats, etc etc
WW2 = Our economy turns around solely because of the war
1950s = Everyone's happy and Fonzi is all like :tup "Heyyyyyyyy" :tup

schools in the soviet union probably learned a more accurate explanation..
Or a German education...

Tour guide: You vill find more on Germany's contributions to ze arts in ze pamphlets ve have provided.

Brian: Yeah, about your pamphlet... uh, I'm not seeing anything about German history between 1939 and 1945. There's just a big gap.

Tour guide: Everyone vas on vacation. On your left is Munich's first city hall, erected in 15...

Brian: Wait, what are you talking about? Germany invaded Poland in 1939 and...

Tour Guide: We were invited! Punch vas served! Check vit Poland!

Brian: You can't just ignore those years. Thomas Mann fled to America because of Nazism's stranglehold on Germany.

Tour guide: Nope, nope! He left to manage a Dairy Queen!
Brian: A Dairy Queen? That's preposterous.

Tour guide: I vill hear no more insinuations about the German people. Nothing bad happened. Sie werden sich hinsetzen! Sie werden ruhig sein! Sie werden nicht beleidigen Deutschland! You will sit down! You will shut up! You will not insult Germany!

Brian: Uh, is that a beer hall?

Tour guide: Oh yes, Munich is renowned for its historic beer halls.
