I have an a-5 with an egrip running on co2 with a palmer male stabilizer. The last game I played which was last year, resulted in the loss of my velocity screw on my a-5. My question is, do I need it since I have the regulator to regulate the amount of co2 coming in?

Also, how should I go about setting up my regulator? What psi should it be at? Should I just turn my velocity up all the way via the screw and then turn it down via the regulator? Or should I set the reg at a certain pressure then use the velocity screw to fine tune things? I just need to know how to set this thing up by tomorrow because I have a game. Thanks for the help.

You really want the screw.

There's nothing wrong with using the regulator to adjust the velocity, but not having the screw leaves a hole in the power tube and your CO2 will be escaping when you shoot instead of having all of the gas go towards pushing the paintball out the barrel.

I used to do the following to adjust: Turn the gun's velocity screw out so it is even with the inside wall of the power tube. Might take it apart and look if you can't see it through the breech (no air please, too easy to shoot yourself in the face here). Then I shoot over the chrono and adjust the reg as needed to get myself a little over 300, then do a final adjustment down with the screw. Remember you'll need to fire a few shots between adjustments to allow the reg to 'settle' into its new adjustment.

I really wouldn't even look at the pressure gauge on the regulator, aside from being curious about it. Just adjust and shoot and watch the chrono numbers.

I don't have a reg on my 98 anymore, but it worked while I did.

You can probably run this way without the velocity screw, it'll work. But again, it will leave a hole in the power tube and will bleed CO2 when you shoot.

Thanks so much for the help Torch. I do have a parts kit with a replacement screw, I was just mainly wondering if it would be beneficial to put it in. Thanks

Ok, i did what you recommended and the screw just seems like its gonna work itself out because its pretty loose. When you say make sure the screw is even with the inside wall of the power tube, you're talking about the tip of the screw and not the head correct?

Edit: I am stupid. I forgot that you said that I will be screwing the screw back in for my final adjustment.

If its going to walk out, feed it in a little more. Won't do any good to keep losing them. You might wrap a little teflon tape on it, that should tighten things up.

It's been a while, they might not have quite the same threading as they used to.

And yes, the inside tip. If you screw it in until the head is flush you'll be pretty close to choking the air flow off completly (lowest velocity).
