I dont understand the concept of this processor. I keep seeing commercials for laptops that say "mobile technoligy processor-take it with you" well derrr laptops are mobile, but why are they calling the processor itself mobile? Is it just lighter? Can you connect to the internet from anywhere at anytime? And how does this compare to a Pentium 4 with HT or a AMD 64 with Power now!?

Any help is appreciated...im just so confused.

The mobile processors are (well were, I havent kept up on my computer geek-ness since i got into paintball) just normal pentium 4 processors that run at a way lower clock speed when theyre not plugged in. Basically, they're WAY more efficient, and run cooler than P4's with HT and AMD 64's.

The mobile technology is the package that comes with the pentium M processors. It consists of a lighter laptop, wireless capability's... and I'm not sure of what else.

Hope it helped

That's what I got. It's basicly just the proccessor that comes with laptops with Centrino on it. It runs cooler, faster, quieter, and the battery lasts longer.

Now, a P4 can never be compared t an A64. The P4 is 32-bit and the AMD64 is obviously 64bit. If you have the choice, go with the 64 mobile. It's just all around better, and in my experience, runs cooler.

AMD is nice, and i prefer them, but from my understanding the mobile ones will have less battery life and run hotter then a pentium M. at the same time though the A64 is much more powerfull and is cheaper. Id buy a A64 and use the extra money for an extra battery...

as far as Pentium M's in general they are basically a pentium built from the ground up for a laptop, were as p4m and p3m are just desktop proccessors with slower clock speeds. They can achieve quite a bit of battery life, anywere from 3-5 hours. and come in various voltages(lower voltage, less power and speed).

however, the pentium M does not have built in wireless. The pentium M is part of a platform called centrino that includes the porocessor and the motherboard(which has integrated 802.11b). This might actually be a disadvantage since it comes with b instead of g(which is much faster). Most of the laptops that are high-end enough to have a64s will have a 802.11g card anyway...
