i have little experience paintballing (gone and rented a couple times) and am thinking about getting a phantom for my first marker.

should i get the stock class or just use a hopper (like 50 or 100 round)?

if i get stock class should i use a 10 or 15 round tube?

should i get the vertical air setup, bottom line, or just regular air into the back?

Also i don't think i want to use the 12 grams. can i put a regular CO2 tank on or do i need some sort of adapter?

would it be easy to go to hpa and a reg? or would this also require some sort of adapter.

i've read that CO2 can be bad for a marker's internals, is this true?

if i went with a hopper and bottom line (for example), would it be easy for someone with very little experience to convert to a vertical stock class using the parts available from CCI?

thank you!

first of all i might recommend getting a PMI Traccer or an aci Maverick. they both cost about 40 used, and maverick costs about 65 new. this would be good because since you haven't played much, you don't want do buy a nice $250 or so phantom for oyur first gun then find out you don't like pump. i had a semi auto then wnated to play pump so i bought a trracer to make sure i like it. it's a pretty good gun. anyways i loved it after that and bought a phantom, even though i like pump, sitll glad i bought the trracer just to make sure. i've been playing for like2-3 years too... (forgot). anyways to answer your questions, my gun is stock classi, like stock class a lot, , cause sometimes people wiht hoppers still autotrigger and fire like 5 bps and aim like they had a semi auto. plus it's a whole lot lighter, and you don't ahve a hopper. my favorite thing about my gun is how light it is. i have 15 round tube, but i recommend getting 10 round. it doesn't stick out into your mask, and kinda looks better i think. you have 10 round tubes anyways so... i wouldn't get air into the back. with a 4 ounce either get vertical air and a stock, or bottomline. you can put regular co2 on it. when you buy the phantom new you ahve choices usually of stock class (12 gram and horizontal tube for loading) or for a constant air tank(4 oz., 9oz. etc.) plus if you buy stock class all you have to do is unscrew a little adapter and vuala! phanotms don't need hpa or a reg. some people get a stabalizer for their co2 but phantoms are already very consistent. and you don't need an adpater either. for markers like cockers it is bad for the internals but not for the phantom. they are made to run on co2 and almost everybody runs them on it. i it would be just a bit tough to switch. switching to 12 gram is nothing, just a screw on, but you have the switch out the whole body i believe to siwthc ot hopper. that doesn't take for than 10 minutes though. i've never done it though, the most i ahve done is tkae out the internals and pump.... hope this answers your questions....

So, let me get this straight, if I buy a VSC I can just take off the co2 powerlet holder and screw on a regular CO2 tank on? Also, could I just take off the little "cigar" of paintballs and put on a hopper?

Scope, yes about the CO2. no about the cigar tubes and the hopper, i think it is a bit more work to switch to a hopper

yep i think i'll go with a trracer. i like pmi.

EDIT: i think i'll get a phantom later. btw, does a 14 inch barrel noticably improve the accuracy of the phantom? what barrels do you all use? do those "Fluted Muzzel" barrels available from CCI help with (decrease) sound level, accuracy? the shortest they are available is 16 inch, isn't that a little long?

thanks!

EDIT AGAIN: i'm thinking about the J&J from available through archerec.com, anyone here use it?

. yeah to swithc form cigar tube to hopper oyu have to swithc out the whole body. a 14" barrel doesn't really improve accuracy at all. once oyu get up to 12" length won't affect it. even with 6" up to 8" up to 12" it's not very big of a change at all. just a little bit, maybe not even noticible unless oyu have both barrels to fire simoultanesly. i have the stcok barrel right now, they are very good barrels on the phantom. the fluted muzzle doesn't help wiht accuracy, and my guess is it helps wiht sound a LITTLE bit. i wouldn't want to get 16". i have 11" and it's perfect. i like 14"too. are you tlaking aobut the j&j edge kit or the j&j ceramic? the j&j edge kit is really nice, but your probably not talking aobut that. that one is about $140. oh and good choice on going wiht the trracer. and scope also good choice on giving pump a try. i did the same thing giving pump a try even thouhg i alreayd had a semi, and thn i bought my phantom i love it so much.
