I picked up a used Spyder pilot for 40 bucks off craigslist, and I have already ordered new trinity wraparound grips (wish I had known that the red/blue Dye ones were 6 dollars at actionvillage, but at least I got black ones!)

My question is: what length ceramic barrel should I pick up? Everyone is saying dont go longer than 14 OR 16; thats fine, but how do I decide between the two lengths? If the 16 inch will give me more accuracy/range, I dont care about the extra gas usage. The difference of 30 shots in a tank that already provides several hundred is negligible.

also, is the laapco feedneck worth it? They are five dollars on ebay vs. 25 or 30 for a clamping one; yeah you have to use an allen key but thats so much cheaper!

Lastly: what are common problem areas that I should run through and oil up? I hooked up air and dry fired it, didnt have any leaks, but the real test will be a day on the field. What are some easy things I can do to get my marker ready?

it doesnt matter if you have a 8" barrel or a 28" barrel if both have a good paint to bore match your accuracy and range will be the same. since you have to chrono your marker you cant get any more range out of it. as for 14 v 16 flip a coin. 16 will be able to poke through bushes slightly more and 14 will be slightly more mobile your choice. its offten said between 12 and 16 is all personal preference, below that you start having to sacrafice porting so it gets louder and you need more gas, above 16 and its getting too long to really be mobile and can cause some issues with the paint while it travels down the barrel.

personally i like allen key feednecks a little better. i feel they hold onto the hopper better

as for oil, make sure you have some paintball oil, wd-40 or motor oil will tear up your o-rings. just put a few drops in the asa (where you screw the tank in) and dry fire it a dozen times with the barrel off. i always suggest bringing extra o-rings to the field with you as well. it sucks to have to quit early or use a rental because a .02 cent part broke

He didn't say expansion chamber, he said volumizer... On a Spyder, increasing valve chamber volume by .5 cubic inches doesn't do a whole lot of anything.
