I've been playing with the Chrono at my local field and I noticed my fps were all over the place, mostly low though. So after adjusting my velocity up, it would help a bit but consistency was pretty bad to where I was noticing shots dropping more then normal. I'm trying to aim for around a consistent 285 but I believe the field max is 295. I believe I was hitting around 230-250 and it would spike up to 300 if I would really screw in the striker plug.

After cleaning I lubed my striker o-ring, could it be that or should I look into a new spring?

Also, whats the bore size of the stock barrel? I'm thinking about upgrading to a J&J or CP barrel and I'm not sure what bores to look into.

chances are it just needed a cleaning and lube, so take it back and try again, a bad spring would show low velocities all the time not really all over the place but i wouldnt necessarily rule it out, my money would be that the cleaning and lube fixes it, after that id take a close look at the valve and rebuild the whole marker just to be on the safe side

Could also be the paint. If you are shooting small paint out of a larger bore barrel or even just bad paint in general it will be hard to maintain a consistent velocity.

Well I bought a new 14 inch J&J so maybe that will help. Although I didn't see any options for bore size which kinda worried me. I made sure I put some extra lube on the striker o-ring and I tightened the bolts around the hose. I was thinking about disassembling the air system to put some oil for leaks but I'll hold off for now. I was also thinking about putting some plumbers tape on all the threads to seal em up.

I think it might of been the paint also, I was trying out some of the visible impact eco (green) / stinger paintballs. The impact balls seemed ok but I didn't care for the stinger balls. Are the visible impact eco balls newer? I don't remember seeing them at walmart before.

bad consistancy right out tha box

I have an 09 sonix that i started with. It's now my backup. but i have been modding it in an attempt to get better consistancy out of it. It's pretty slick now. first of all there are no o-rings on the stock bolt. And when i found a shockteck bolt (with o-rings on it)that said it would fit all spiders, it was 3/4" too long on the front end. But the vent and pin lined up right so after a trip to the shop, i cut it down and refinished/polished the end. the hardest part was using a dremmel to carve the detent groove. added a taper on the top edge like a planet eclipse cure bolt. And VIOLA!! better air efficiency and a bit more consistancy. The o-rings keep the air from blowing out around the outside of the bolt front and back, and make sure the entire shot is delivered in the right direction. SOOOO back to the spring. the consistancy is still not what it could be. so i have bought a few spring kits. DO NOT GET the colored extreme rage springs they don't come with matching front springs. Warrior paintball makes a spyder spring kit that i am currently experimenting with. You can clearly see the difference in the quality of steel used. I think it will work with the medium spring in the back and the heavy spring in the front. the kit comes with 2 different sizes of front spring use the larger one. If you're shootin over 300, instead of putting a softer spring in the back. Put a heavier spring in the front. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON A REGULATOR...like i did. fortunately it fit on the girls ION. Spyders NEED 800-900 psi to operate so if you put a reg on it you wont be able to get close to 300fps no matter how stiff a spring you put in it. I run a one piece 14" proto barrel, 48/3000 gorilla air (cause CO2 freezes the gun, and makes it fail), and a planet eclipse OOps and mainrail for an on/off(my fav add on). I have a pmr10 nice N upped. I love the spyder i use the PRM. why i love the spyder: it works every time i pull it out. with my bolt mod and a DYE rotor it stopped choppin paint. it is by far the lightest marker i've seen (my buddy has an ego9...its heavier even with carbon tank)Makes my proto feel like a brick. Hope something out of this ramble helps.

Oh yah and BOOYAH!! for my first post on PB review.
