Anyone else here play pool? As in billiards. Ive started over the summer and got hooked. Now im pretty good and I own a 55$ player cue. Its not as good looking as the 400$ hand crafted ones but it still looks nice and performs just as well.

Anyone else play? How long? Any tips?

Clarks Tip #1:

To get a nice powerful break, dont try to kill the ball. Chances are that a hard sloppy shot will be less effective than a regular shot with good form. You want to make sure you hit center cue and stand (if right handed) with your left toe pointing towards the target. Keep your wieght on your back foot and just as you go to hit, transfer all your weight in your shoulders and hips foreward onto your front leg and make sure you hit that center cue. If you do this right, you will get a nice spread on the table and have one or two go in. This correct form automatically fixed my problem with good breaking. Try it out.

I have a pool table in my basement, its about 100 or so years old with some inlay thing on the legs, and it was just moved to our house about a half a year ago. We got it from my grandparents, who didnt even know the wood was inlayed because someone had painted over it. Anyways, its a snooker* table ( the corner pockets are about 1-2 mm bigger than the ball so you need a perfect shot for it to go in) and snooker tables are huge (ours is at least) they are at least 3 feet longer than other kinds ect.

i learned how to play when i was like 8 and have played like once a month lately. We dont have anywhere to put a pool table, but the pool hall around here is pretty cheap so we just go there

Chances are if his pool hall is a good one then the tables are way better than any table you have in your house. The only way to get good at pool is to play on a good table, because bad tables are unpredictable so you can't actually practice playing properly. When I was 10 my family went on vacation to Ireland to visit some relatives, so we used to go to the pub like every night and my cousin taught me how to play pool and darts because there is nothing better for kids to do in a pub so I played pool and darts for like 3 hours every day. I got to be pretty good, and I still try and play a couple times a month when I have nothing better to do. Now that you mention it I might pick it up more seriously now that my gf went away to school. Something to keep my idle hands busy.

Anything gets repetetive if you do it enough. All pool is is hitting a ball with a stick to make it hit other balls into pockets. All paintball is is running behind bunkers and pulling a trigger to fire a ball to hit a person. The fun lies in trying to become better and once you are at your peak competing against people that are better than/equal to you. Admittedly paintball is quite a bit more dynamic than pool, and you won't get much of an adrenaline rush in pool unless you're playing for something big, (but you don't want adrenaline anyway, since you need to remain calm and focused). Plus you can't ball during all of your free time, so it doesn't hurt to have another hobby.
