Is it just me, or do they TRY to mess you up when you are filling out a request for a rebate? Seriously, sometimes the directions are so confusing and unclear.

I was actually lucky enough to get my laptop rebate for 30$, but i had a few problems with the directions. First they tell you that it has to be postmarked 15 days after you get it, so i had to hop on it right away. Then they tell you to include the serial number and bar code that came on the box. That may sound simple but there was TWENTY TWO bar codes on the box that my computer came in. Well you know what? I cut out every last one and sent it to them. Sure enough my check came today, but it was in this envelope that actually had LABELED DIRECTIONS on it for opening. Its like their last ditch effort to keep their money, incase you rip the check or someithng. So i opened it up right anyway and now im 30$ richer. Yay.

Anyone got some wacky rebate stories?

Yeah they definately make you try to mess up. I fill those out for cell phones at Radio Shack and you gotta follow directions exactly to get it.

They only offer those things to try and get you to buy things, they don't expect/want you to do it so they make it as difficult as possible in order to discourage you from doing it, but you already bought it so you can't get your money back. Rebates are just another marketing tool.

see, most of them from stores are mostly straightforeward...but when you buy something online, the directions are usually vague. I got a rebate from staples before on a stick of RAM and it was ok, but when I buy stuff online, I have to be careful.
