I just got a recently got a Sony Handycam DVD cam corder as a gift, but im a little confused with using it. I have finalized my 3 inch dvds and put them in my computer and am not sure how to save them and or edit them, and or burn them to a regular blank dvd-r. If anyone could help at all with this its greatly appriciated.
Thanks, Tom

my dad has one and the way we always did it was by plugging in the camera via USB and running the included software to extract all the clips. I then proceeded to use the clips in Windows Movie Maker or Pinnacle Studio. After you edit the stuff in the video software, each should have a way of burning it to a dvd/cd-r. If you can get your hands on Pinnacle 8, 9, or 10, try out the video cd(VCD) format, it's quite nice for those who don't have a DVD burner because it still works in most DVD players.

Personally, I prefer the MiniDV for some reason, perhaps because that's what I myself own and used in a class for a semester this year. But don't get me wrong, the video quality of the Handicam is :tup and with a little practice I could learn to love it as much as MiniDV.

well have you tried to do it without finalizing the dvd first? that's my only suggestion. or maybe get a DVD to AVI/MPEG/WMV ripper (just google for it). If worst comes to worst buy the USB from sony and IMAGEMIXER 1.5. :tup

How to copy still images or movie files from the camcorder DVD to a computer.

Follow the procedure below to copy still images or movie files from the camcorder DVD to a computer.

IMPORTANT: The computer must be running a Microsoft® Windows® operating system and have a DVD-ROM drive installed. Macintosh® computers are not supported at this time. In addition, the DVD must be finalized to perform this procedure.

NOTE: This solution only applies to DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-R recorded with a DVD Handycam® camcorder. Copying still images and movie files from copyrighted DVD movies is not supported.

1. Insert the DVD into the DVD-ROM drive of the computer.
2. On the computer desktop, click the Start button and then click My Computer.

NOTE: If available, you can double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop instead.
3. In the My Computer window, right-click the DVD Drive icon, then click Open.
4. Right-click the appropriate folder and then click Copy.

* For still images, right-click the DCIM folder.
* For movie files, right-click the VIDEO_TS folder.
5. Right-click on the desktop and then click Paste.

NOTE: The folder and all the contents in the folder will be copied to the desktop of the computer.
6. On the computer desktop, right-click the newly copied folder and then click Rename.
7. Type a new name for the folder.
8. Press the ENTER key on the keyboard.

yeah i read that as well but, i have a dvd ram drive on my computer but whenever i put the mini dvd in my cpmputer the dvd drive:)d) renames to cd drive. When i click it i get plz insert a disk into drive D. then i was messing around and clicked cd rw drive and got. Under files ready to be written. My videos. When i click it nothing is in there. I then messed around and put it into the cd drive and got, the same thing. Yeah im just kind of lost. And heres the story for my camera.

I messed around with wanting a camera and talked to my grandma about one, and she loved spoiling me and she called me up one day and said i think u need that camera and said order it offline right now, and she gave me her cc number. Well i after i got it i loved it, but all i had done was recorded, then a little bit more than a week after i got my camera she passed away. so now im just really wanting to be able to use this thing a ton b/c it also has special meaning to me.

Alright well i tired my sis's computer and it worked great. I uploaded all my photo's from the cam corder but i had a little problem. When i tried to upload my videos onto photobucket, i couldnt do to it being and IFO file. How do i change the file type, and or are there any other video uploaders out there that are able to upload IFO files. Thanks a lot for all of your time and patience.

I've never heard of an IFO file. i'd suggest find something that converts IFO to WMV or MPEG or even AVI. That should do the trick for uploading.
