I'm from Chicago....

...who do I THINK is going to win?

The critical elements of the Western series was the Wings eliminating the Ducks...and someone taking Vancouver out in the first round (wish it could have been Chi). If you compare the simplicity and speed of the Chicago game against that of the balance of the West... The Ducks were the only team able to do it faster. The conference will probably be Hawks vs. Kings - though I'm not "paycheck wagering" confident that the Sharks won't turn it around and blue-streak their way into the Conference Finals.

Now - the East. Being a Western focused individual - I haven't given adequate time to checking into depth charts and watching gameplay and game styling of the East like I have the west.

First series - The Sens. vs Pit. The Sens have speed, agility, and offense like a mother - but they don't have the practice, build, and discipline that the Penguins do. Patience and experience generates scoring chances - and with that...games are won. Pit in 5.5.

Second - Bruins vs. Rangers. Bruins have the experience, depth, and that damn 6'9" team captain. The Rangers are an older squad - and consistently make it to the playoffs (lower 2-3 spots in prior years)..but they don't cut the turn in the first series hard enough - and get blown out. Seems that all those first round losses have netted some momentum- but certainly not enough to take out Boston...though they won't go down without a fight - and they'll somehow bloody Boston before its over. Boston in 6.5.

From there - Hawks on Kings. The Kings had a rough start - but were able to channel their team game back together - but it seems they're doing it using a more effective version of what Columbus does - and with Quick in the net..they have a Stanley Cup-current tender keeping slop out of their net. By far - this is going to be the largest challenge for the Hawks - as the game styling differs greatly from their own. Concise passing, speed, precision, and offensive rotation really doesn't play well against the "shoot the puck - slop in the rebound" mentality of LA - and Crawford doesn't do well against it either. Look to see Emery facing off against Quick here. This is going to be won more by drawing penalties & killing your own - something the Hawks do well - esp. this post season.

Boston vs. Pit. - This is where my desire - and reality conflict. Boston is a "body" team - pushes hard every game, and play just about as physical as Nashville does. If there are 15 seconds that go by without a hit tallied... you know someone's taking 30 lashes in the Boston dressing room between periods. Considering that Syd the...most offensively minded player in the NHL has had a long recovery from a concussion - and is still nursing a broken jaw.. I can't help but wonder how well he will fare against the Boston series - and how shaken up he'll be before taking on the West. Pit has a better set of top-two lines, but Boston has more depth and guys that can work the body. Boston in 7 - but I'd prefer if Pit were to come out on top...banged up and bleeding.

Stanley Cup
My Ideal - Chicago on a bleeding Pit. Chicago in 5 due to depth and a skittish star player.

The reality - Chicago on Boston. Both teams kill well. Both teams can take advantage of scoring opportunities. Both team have depth - but edge given to Chicago. Chicago takes it in 4, or Boston has it in 7.

Coming off such a dominant 4 game series against Pittsburgh and seeing how well the bruins can play hockey, I think the Bruins might have the edge, especially if Rask plays as well as he did against the Pens. Keep in mind that Boston is my team so I'm pretty biased in my predictions, I think that Boston will win it in 6 because of how well they play as a team, how much grit they play with and how they can shut you down defensively but also score goals when they need to. Chicago will win in 7 if the Bruins don't play their best hockey, Crawford plays as well as he's been playing this postseason and the hawk's top players bring their A game and start scoring goals.

Personally I think Chicago's got it in 6. Both Rask and Crawford have been playing outstanding but I think that Chicago's just got an intensity that Boston can't match.

Then again I hate the Bruins so that might be a little biased.

Go Canucks

I'm really pissed. Mainly because all my buddies are bugging me about this... it's hard to be a Bruins fan in Vancouver.
I would think its easy since the Canucks got swept first round.
