read the book "Saucerful of secrets"

i just got it yesterday and. im about a quarter of the way through, and its amazingly detailed and entertaining. the author did a great job talking about each band members' background, as well as all the people that helped them become pink floyd. he talks a lot about syd and the pre-gilmour floyd. i cant wait to finish this.

well you cant talk about pink floyd without talking about syd. syd WAS pink floyd until he left the planet and decided to live on mars.

of coarse without his leaving pink floyd would never have become really famous (especially in america).

its sad what happened to syd. if anyone asks me the most tragic thing in rock history i would say that. he develops like schizophrenia from drugs and then goes to live in solitude the rest of his life.. and you know people actually rob his house, vandalize his property, and take stuff from him because they KNOW he doesnt want to appear in court? he doesnt even want to call police or deal with the outside world at all.

yep, the book highlights a lot about syd's downfall. he was such an amazing artist, but as more time went on, the more he built a wall around himself from the rest of the world.

apparently now he's just a regular person he takes medicine and whatnot. i cant ever see him jumping back into the studio with pink floyd or w/e but honestly.. how amazing would that be? syd barret comes back from seclusion and records a pyschedelic album with roger waters and the original lineup.

ehh, he was as good as we was because of his problems. thats why he was constantly able to make such great lyrics and tunes. syd's greatness came from his unpredictable nature and his improvisations. now that he's old, screwed up from drugs and meds, and a lifetime of seclusion and isolation, i doubt he'd be much of an artist anymore.
