OK, at the garage i work at, a long time customer bought a brand new toyota Prius (a hybrid, for those who dont know, a hybrid car still has a gasoline engine, just a second motor, an electric motor, sandwiched between the gas engine and the tranny. the idea is the electric motor does like 50% of the work so the gas engine doesnt have too, hence saving gas). It got a good 50mpg or so, and he got the full 10,000 mile warranty.

He got a call from the dealer, they told him something is wrong with the programming in his cars on-board computer, and he needs to bring it in ASAP. Well of course he brought it back in, and they told him it was all fixed and he has nothing to worry about now.

a week later, he realizes now hes only getting 35mpg.......

he wondered, wtf is going on. He looked into it, and found out what was going on, and he is pissed. Toyota found out, with the amount of work they have the electric motor doing, the Prius's will have to get their $3000 battery replaced BEFORE the 10,000 mile warranty is up, meanin Toyota will have to give up free $3,000 batteries since they are going bad before the warranty is up. So they did a phony re-call, brought the cars in, and re-programmed them so the electric engines do less work and will go bad at around 20,000 miles and the car-owners will have to pay full price for a new battery,

therefore he now only gets 35mpg with a hybrid.......

Toyota is officially effed up

12-14 with my Ram..............I hate gas. I was really happy yesterday though when I filled up. Around where I live, most of the gas stations are at about $3.15 for regular. Went through a nearby town and it was only $2.97 for regular...I was happy. I had a little more than half a tank and it only cost 29 bucks to fill it up. Pretty cheap for me and my gas guzzler haha.

Sucks. I wish I had that kind of gas mileage though. A lifted truck with a V8 5.9L engine isnt too fun nowadays on the road. I am gettin about 8mpg at $3 a gallon. I am constantly filling up.

if u guys think gas is bad in the states think of it this way there is like 3.8 litres in a gallon right well it costs use like $1.20-$1.40 for 1 ltre of gas here u can do the math

This guy I know has a Ford Escape Hybrid. He was told that his battery costs $4000 plus installation fees. But I dont think for will "recall" thier stuff to mess it up. But anything is possible.

the hybrid system on those cars is covered for 8yr/100K, includes batteries, computer and the elec. motor

all the people i sold prius' to, they are all avg. about 55 in the city and 45 on the highway

exactly, this dealership set up his hybrid so the batteries will go bad after that warranty is up, but its nice to here w/e dealership u work at has some dignity

2.2L 5 spd, and I beat the crap out of it every step of the way.

Gas in my g/f's town is $2.86 right now, so its 100% worth it for me just to drive there and get gas.
