hey, i own a 98c. I've played with it about 6 times and taken it apart about 4. I never turn my velocity screw all the way down like the manual suggests before disasembeling the marker. I have not noticed any problems at the cronograph. Why does tippmann tell us to turn the screw down before dissassembly?

If the screw is sticking out far enough the two halves of the gun stick together until you adjust the screw.

That's the only thing I've ever noticed.

On a tippmann to turn the velocity down you screw it in and tippmanns have a problem with the velocity screws falling out especially durrin assembly so if you screw it in tight this ensures that this won't happen. + what Torch said.

IN addition...if there are any problems with the power tube (where the velocity screw is attached to), a "Lower " Setting will allow axtra CO2 to ecape slower than if your screw was all the way out.
