Ok, so I have a bit of a problem here. I'm an MMO nerd, have played everything from Guild Wars to WoW to SWTOR, and none of them are really doing it for me. Anyone know of a good MMO out there that breaks the curve as far as originality goes? Or am I going to have to design and build my own now? :p

Guild Wars was great as far as classes/skills go, but their end-game was weak.
World of Warcraft has been dumbed down so much there's no difference between class A, B, or C.
Rift was fun but fell into the "Kill a bunch of these to level" grind. Liked the class setup, though.
SWTOR has great storytelling, great character depth, but (in my opinion) same-old leveling and classes.

I'm thinking Rift until Guild Wars 2 comes out, but I don't know if there's anything better out there. What do you guys think?

I play free MMO games because I'm a poor bastard
:(
That too I think it's absolutely ****ing stupid to pay $15 a month to play a PC game. I already sunk ~$1500 into my build. I already pay $65 a month for internet. I already bought the ****ing game for $60. Now you want me to pay $15 a month too? Yeah **** that.

As long as Guild Wars 2 is free like the first one I will play the **** out of that. I beat the first one my freshmen year back in High School. Spent like an entire summer playing.. What a waste.

People pay $12 a month for Xbox live for the same reason I pay monthly for WOW. you're continuously getting new content, and technical support.

$12 for Xbox Live? WHAT?!

I paid $35 for my one year subscription, or $3 a month. The normal rate for a year is only $60 anyways. Anybody who pays $12 a month for Xbox Live should literally shoot themselves.

Yeah Wow is dead, Rift is dead, SWTOR was a bit of a disappointment, Guild Wars 2 is the one I'm really hanging my hopes on. It's the only game I've preordered and will go to midnight launch for since Modern Warfare 2 came out.

Charr Engineer or Asuran Mesmer ftw. Might go Human Thief as well, dunno yet.

You guys gotta post this **** in the regular lounge, I don't look anywhere else!

A lot of people are talking about gw2 like it's going to be amazing but unless you ONLY pvp, you're going to be disappointed. It's a pvp game, plain and simple.

Besides that, you really only have wow and swtor. From what you've said, you're in the exact same boat as I am with wow. Blizzard completely ****ed that game up.

I've been playing swtor since launch. It is a lot better than wow imo and that's why I have kept with it. End-game is pretty meh at this point but from what Bioware has said about the direction they're taking it, it seems solid. Patch 1.2 will be out in early April and that will bring a bunch of new and improved content which I'm hopeful will deliver enough reward for the time commitment. Currently my guild full clears nightmares on Tuesdays and do nothing but alts/money making the rest of the days so if 1.2 doesn't deliver what we want I'll most likely be unsubbing. I find it odd you say leveling is same-old. I've never been one to get into story and **** but I enjoyed the **** out of both my characters' story lines and the immersion in the game is pretty damn good. Also keep in mind that MMO's are a HUGE undertaking and nothing will be perfect at launch. Bioware has done a decent job fixing bugs and has promised some great content so we'll see.

Then again there's always Titan in a couple years. >_>

Check their website again, they just posted that preorders will start April 10th from their website:

So far the biggest things I'm looking forward to are:

WvW pvp. 3 servers, up to 2,000 people in the arena at once, dynamic events, multiple control points (like, dozens), deep strategy, and weeks-long battles. It has the makings to be purely epic.

Skillsets. Guild Wars 1 had one of the best, most innovative skill systems ever designed, IMO. Granted, it goes along with their philosophy of "bring the skill, not the gear" for their games, and I like that. The really fun thing was how the different classes, if built correctly, would synergize with each other. My hammer warrior would do an AoE knockdown, for example, which would open up my Earth Ele friend's "If target foe is knocked down, do x" skills, and would allow my Necro buddy to stop dropping wells when the bodies started hitting the floor. Sure, we could have just played sword/fire/curses for better overall dps, but synergizing our skills made our group better in pretty much all aspects. GW2 looks to expand on that. Just looking at the scant few skills they've released, I already have combos in my head that I'm fired up about trying. Ele Fire Wall + Hunter's Barrage, anyone?

Free to play. This may not seem like a big one, but Guild Wars is probably the only game I've played that was free to play (meaning, no monthly subs; you still have to pay for the game once) that maintained a solid, active GM/player community. They did more with free subs than any other MMO has done with paid, as far as I've seen. If they carry that over to GW2, it'll be an awesome experience.

I really hope this game is worth it, because Swtor/Rift really let me down (Rift especially, it had soooo much potential). Hopefully GW does what they do and release a good quality game. From what I've seen though, it doesn't seem like we have to worry about that too much; it looks awesome.
