How Can You Tell What Barrel Thread?

first of all id like to say thanks to the people that helped with my "firing problem" it turned out to be just the o-ring!

my next question is,ive heard that the Model98's have 2 different threads, how can you tell what barrel thread is which? and does is really matter?

thanks again!

Luke

Not sure about them having two different threads, every tippmann Ive ever owned or used has always had 'tippmann' threads....unless the new ones have the A-5 thread....Im not sure...

take it to a proshop or field if you have one near you and try some. some people will let you try their barrel to see if it fits

alright i found it... the barrel adapter is made by lapco and this description is straight fromtheir website hope this helps

"IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT concerning Model 98's with Serial Numbers after 495,501

Tippmann changed the thread specs for new Model 98s. Old barrels will not fit these new guns.

Here is what LAPCO is doing to correct this:

We made 1000 new Barrel Adapters that allow you to put an older barrel on the new guns. Dealers may order these adapters now. We are also manufacturing new Model 98 barrels with the new thread spec. We expect them to be in stock by November the 24th. Our new barrels will fit ALL Model 98s."

If you run into this issue, you do not need a barrel adaptor. If the barrel will not fit, loosen the front 2 bolts, screw the barrel in all the way and then retighten the 2 front bolts.

Upgrading from a m98 to a 98 custom would be pointless. They are practically the same gun, just with different upgrades.
