tippmann model 98 questions

I started playing about 3 or 4 months ago with my boyfriends spyder, but I decided I should buy my own and maybe get some of my girlfriends to play.
I just bought a tippmann model 98 about 2 months ago. I'm using the original 8.5" barrel with the regular Co2 intake and everything and realizing that it needs a lot of upgrading.

Suggestions PLEASE.

you should check the Tippmann sticky- https://www.paintballforum.com/forum/...d.php?t=114540

You should upgrade your barrel first becuase the stock one sucks. Custom Products one piece is a veery good barrel.

A new barrell would be good. I would suggest a J&J Ceramic, SP teardrop/progressive, or CP one piece. I have a teardrop on my 98 and its not too bad for the price. Also, a double trigger is a good upgrade. It should be more comfy than a single and you will probably be able to shoot faster. Those are some good upgrades at the beginning. Also, an electric hopper wouldn't be too bad but isn't really necessary right now.

Well I'm only playing woodsball with the guys and some have automatics and some don't and I'm finding that I end up taking out the guys with the automatics first so I'm not concerned about firing fast. You guys are right though about a barrel upgrade. Everyone says I should invest in a flatline.

How are those and do they install easy?

You really dont want to up it too much. I mean right now you might want to, but $300 down the line, it still going to be a blowback 98c.

All you really need right now is a new barrel.

12 or 14" JJ Ceramic Barrel (xpaintball.com)

Longer barrel does not mean more accurate.

eDIT: Its great to see girls taking up the sport. I'm sick of going to the field and being like. Yep. I went to sausagefest 2005.

Expansion chamber isn't really needed with the CVX valve, it works nicely on CO2. Double trigger is kinda pointless since you can't really walk it. You do have a bit more room to fan though.

Well, if you want something close to an automatic, the easiest upgrade would be a response trigger. There about $60-ish though but you can get a somewhat automatic shot. With the flatline, my friend has one and its actually good but not for the price. It is way too much. They get pretty good range and the accuracy is alright but you shouldn't be paying that much for a barrel.

I'm thinking of getting an expansion chamber for 98 custom but I have heard many conflicting stories, I use CO2. The only upgrade I have on mine is a stock, I kinda miss my army days and like to have something against my shoulder.

Thanks guys this is awesome. I think I will just go with the 14 " j&j.

:-D I'm excited! My boyfriend and his buddy were trying to talk me into the $100 + flatline barrel but I've heard soo many people say that they were a waste of money, so I'm just gonna believe that. THANKYOU SO MUCH!

let me shoot--Find your way to the tippmann forum on here and you will find everything you nee to know. Personally I like the flatline but you cant go wrong with the J&J 14" you are considering. Welcome to the sport and C-you at the tippmann forum.

PS. My wife started out with a tippmann 98 now she shoots an EVO. (keep that in mind before you dump alot of money in that tippy)

I traded it and a 12v revvie for an empire jersey and a haloB. But she's getting my modded egg out of the deal.

Lets not hi-jack her thread
