Questions about Custom Pro

Hey guys, I just picked up my Custom Pro from the local shop. I just had a few questions. Sorry if they sound kind of paranoid but the shop I bought it from had it hanging on the wall with all of the other markers and when I told them what I wanted they just took it down and packed it up for me. I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with it and that I'm not buying a used one.

1. First off the packaging. The styrofoam was kind of crushed where the dropforward sits. The guy said they use they same styrofoam packaging as the 98 and then just pack the Custom Pro in there. Is this true?

2. The Buffer O-Ring in the back is loose and slides back and forth on the drive spring. Is that normal or should it be seated firmly somewhere?

3. The edges on the top of the gun between the front and rear sights are a bit gnarled and there's some flecks of paint here or there that are missing. Is this normal? I'm assuming they're just typical production imperfections since it's made from a mold but I'm a perfectionist and want to make sure. Like I said, I don't want a used gun.

4. The double trigger was surprisingly hard to work at first. It took me a few tries to start getting the hang of it because I had to time the return of the trigger. Do I really just suck or should it be pretty simple to fire it. On ESPN you always see them firing their DT lightning fast and I was having trouble with the timing. I might be half retarded though.

That's about it. I love the gun so far. I shot about a quarter of a hopper with it, its raining otherwise I'd practice the DT more. But any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

1. Probably true. The guns are the same except for some small differences like the drop forward.

2. That's what it does. Sometimes it'll stick to something but it spends most of its life flopping around. As long as it has the spring and guide going through the middle of it things will be fine.

3. The edges are rough from the casting, like you said. All of my 98's were like that. You can knock it flat with a file, but naturally that takes all the powder coating off. The flakes, well, it might have been some contamination on the metal during the coating process. It's gotta be almost beyond clean when its sprayed on.

If you look you should be able to tell if its just a flake or if it was beat on.

4. The guns in pro paintball are electric. The trigger pull is extremly light (Probably way too light) and the pull length is a very small fraction of an inch.

Unless you have the E-grip version of the gun, that just won't be happening and you'll probably just want to pull with both fingers at the same time. Even with the E-grip you'll have to fiddle with it to get the pull the way you like it.

Hope that helped you. Enjoy the new gun.

It helped a lot, thanks! It'll see it's first game Saturday, my first time at an actual field. Let's hope it holds up for me. Thanks again.

I just got my custom pro also and it had some imperfections and i knew it was brand new because the shop had to order it from tippmann. I will be adding the response trigger to it shortly so i hope it will be better than stock.

I have one thing to add to torch's answer to question 4.

Your trigger is mechanical, so it is going to be harder to pull then the e-grips. To change that you could buy a W.A.S. Board e-grip upgrade for it. I have it on mine, it makes a world of difference. But that costs about $50 i think... not to sure on the price.

Anyway, another thing you can do to increase the speed a little and not hurt your walet is to do a simple pen spring mod.... I'm guessing you don't know what that is so I'll make an attempt at explaining it.

When you take your 98 apart there is a spring that pushes the trigger back after you fire. (do not confuse it with the sear spring very bad if you do. Cheak your parts mannual for what spring I'm talking about) You can take that spring out and replace it with a spring out of a ball point pen. You may have to cut the spring a little to get it to fit right.

The big Question here is what type of pen spring do I want to use?

The answer is that it's all personal presference. I personally like a rather weak spring so i don't have to pull very hard on the trigger. The disadvantage is that then the trigger dosn't return as fast. Others like a heavyer spring for quick return. You'll have to just play around with it and see what you like.

If anyone else has something to add or correct me, feel free to.

Did the spring mod and one of my own on the sear.. I'd just keep it stock. I have a camo 98C. They oversprayed the inside.. Tippmann told me this is normal. So I polished the internals out of neccessity due to them being covered in paint. I love the cyclone I put on the thing so far. Just shoot if for a while and see how you like it. I went to a scenario game a while back and just used my 98C. I got a lot of kills. The gun didn't hold me back at all. It was all tactics.

In senerios, I've found that the gun can only hold you back if its not working right.

Actually I've seen time after that the high end guns actually hold people back in senerios. Can't take the dirt and abuse that senerios give the markers.
