A-5 Accuracy

I bought a tipmann A-5 about 1 month ago and i must say its pretty inaccurate, and just wondering what everyone here had to say, as far as paint goes i have shot cheap walmart stuff, and some paint called bullets, and paint called nightmare and none seem to be better then the other, I played in a Halo Tourney over the weekend in NC and couldnt shoot the ground if i tried, i dont think its a barrel issue, but im not sure, everytime i shot it would curve left, right,up,down then once every 5-6 shots one would go straight.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

yea, it could be a velocity issue, but it could also be the cheap walmart paint as well...if the paint doesnt fit the barrel well, it will shoot like crap. If you want to spend some cash, you could always buy a new barrel...

not sure what my air is set at, but saturday at the Halo tourney it was shooting 260 FPS, The walmart paint was the first i shot then the Bullet paint, then i shot the Nightmare paint balls and the only difference i noticed was that the walmart paint would explode in the barrel, other then that the other paint curved just as much. it was like whoever i shot at had a force field around them and the balls curved.

when it comes to barrels im not sure what to get, i dont think i want anything bigger then 14. someone at the field also said that as the day goes on the paintballs will expand or shrink depending on temp, and that i should buy some fitters for my barrel.

should i sell the A5 and get something else or is this gun worth putting money into, i like the look of it as is, i play more woodsball then speedball.

if its an acuracy problem there are only 3 possible couses, 1. barrel to paint match (which i'm sure it is) or 2. an air problem or 3 cheap paint (another one i'm sure is your problem.) . I'll tell you how to fix both of them

1. If your using the stock barrel then this is your probblem. The tippmann stock barrels are usless, serously spend the extra $25 or so bucks and up grade to a nice 14 inch barrel.
2. Your velocity may be to high or low. Simply turn it down by turning your velocity srew in for down and out for high(see mannual)
3. Cheap wal-mart paint isn't worth buying. It has imprefections and it is usually very old when you buy it. It will not shoot right in most $100 barrel systems.

Buying a new gun would be pointless because your accuracy problem has nothing to do with the gun.

Is the barrel and breech area clean and free of dirt, paint, oil buildup?

Nightmare isn't bad paint but its not the best. I've nere heard of bullet paint (is it some wal-mart brand paint couse if it is then its bad).

Again if your using the stock barrel your going to have a hard time getting good accuracy.

I'll recommend paint that isn't horribly high priced,
DXS midnight
DXS Blaze
Diablo Heat
Eliminators
X-ball bronze or silver
PMI premium

I cant 100% agree with that. I still use the stock barrel and my accuracy isn't too bad.. its not Uber or anything, but i have little trouble hitting people i want to hit.

For the record, my velocity is set to around 20-25% (i do this to save air more than anything) However I plan to do what i can to turn it into a sniper marker. 14" (16 if i find proof that its worth it) SS barrel is what i want to put on it, then ill jack up the velocity to see if i can get more distance out of it. Ill have to play with it to make sure i dont put it too high tho.

oh..

$45 box of paint only a mark or two above low quality. If you want Good paint, youll need to spend about $50-60 for a box. (least in my experience)

Does paint boxes and stuff have dates on them? If so they look at it. If not then we should bug the manufactures to put it on :P

The stock barrels on the tippmanns are worse then any aftermarket barrel. Can you hit people with them? Yes you can, so i guess LordWolfx has a point but another reason he is having halfway decent accuracy is because his velocity is so low.

LordWolfx, if you want a barrel that will give you a little more distance you will have to buy a flatline or a BT Apex otherwise all other barrels shoot the same distance.

1. Yea, i keep the velocity that low because not only do i need 1, 20oz tank to last all day, but i have both the cyclone feed, and a response trigger using air too. Also, when i play, im not one to 'charge the line guns ah blazen'. I like to start from the back, out of sight, and sneak my way into a good firing position. Most the time not even my teammates know where i am.

2. My experiences with the 98c Flat line tells me its best to avoid using them. They are a case of "as long as everything is working correctly, it works great". But if anything is off on them, they are crap. Also they arn't all that accurate eather. Now im only talking about the 98 FL, but i cant imagine the A-5 version would be much different.

At first, i wanted to get a BT Apex, but they didn't appear to be much different than normal barrels other than how they looked.. I have also heard mixed reviews about the apex system.

Also, I haven't seen any evidence that one barrel can give both improved distance, and accuracy, else everyone would be using them. Given the choice between one or the other, for sniping, id prefer accuracy. Cause distance doesn't mean squat if you cant hit your target.
