aiming inconsistency

first time i went pballing with my new x7 it worked pretty good.. aim was solid..

now the other day i went and bought some spectrum balls and was shooting targets in my yard, and i had some problems... for the first 70-100 most of my shots were veering off target big time..at about 12-15meter distance.. like they would seriously curve sometimes more than a foot off target.

i cleaned some paint out of the barrel and then for 100 shots it was shooting great, almost all shots on target... then it went off again...cleaned the barrel again, but no effect....it was already perfectly clean.. last 100 shots were just as screwed as the first 100.

i do not remember seeing one shot veer like this at the arenas i played at.. could it be a paint issue? they were some of the more inexpensive balls at the shop.. or does my gun need to be opened up and cleaned out...hasn't been serviced once yet and i've gone through probably 600 balls total so far..

paint-barrel match was probably good on his and bad on yours. clean your gun really good, full disassemble, and try it again. Meh, if it was me, i clean my gun every time i use it or put air through it...

Were you using CO2 or HPA? Because the pressure in a CO2 tank will change from shot to shot making it a little harder to hit a target constiantly. This can be made worst if it's cold out.

Also the presure being going into the vavle can make a big differance, too high of one will deform the ball and cause it to fly off randomly while too low will cause the velocity to be too low.

As for finding a good paint to barrel match: you don't want have the ball just fall threw barrel or get stuck. You should be able to blow it out like you would a blow dart.

i see...
yea it was about -5 celcius outside when i was shooting, and i was using CO2.

the velocity was set around 250fps.. well at least thats what it was at the last time i fired it on a full tank at the arena..

also, how can you explain the 100 or so shots i had that were firing perfectly.. like 100 consecutive good shots..

as for ball to barrel match..i was just looking at it.....ball rolls through easy...

barrel hole is noticably bigger than the ball

The first 100 may have been fine because you tank was still warm from being inside but after you went out side it cooled down to -5 C and that means the pressure in the tank dropped as well. Why that is : The Ideal gas law or

So here is the simple break down of that is that
  • As the temperature drop your tanks pressure will drop,
  • As you fire the gun you remove gas -> lowing the pressure & temp

So during the first 100 shot your tank was still warm from being inside but it cooled off to -5C so you lost alot of pressure in the tank. Using the gun then lowered the temp in the tank to less then -5C. And after that the liquid CO2 was not being turn to a gas fast enough so your gun sucked up alot of liquid CO2.

The liquid CO2 also freezes part the paint ball shell and causes all kinds of fun (Shell becomes very brittle and contracts a little)

Switching to a HPA system will prevent these kinds of problems and help with the guns consitancy.

Also the cold weather will also mess the paint up alot
