Hey guys, should I get an e-frame or a response trigger. FYI, I'm considered a noob and I haven't really taken stuff apart before..

Well neither is really hard, and if you don't feel confident, i'm sure your nearest shop knows how to do and will do it if you buy the upgrade from them, or for a small fee.

If your going to play any speedball at all the E-grip is the way to go. The resposne trigger is not leagal in speedball. Also the e-grip is faster, comes with modes, and dosn't use extra co2.

If your only going to play senerio/woods, then the response is the way to go. There are no 9 volts to worry about, its mechanical so water isn't a factor, and its more durable than an e-grip.

that is debatable

The Response Trigger is an upgrade that converts Tippmanns to an "Assisted Mechanical Semi". This means that a mechanical system is helping to reset the trigger faster then a standard Semi (The gun is ready to fire again after the trigger is released). And in the case of the RT it's a ram that is being driven by the same burst of air that is use to rest the hammer and fire the ball. This means that as part of the firing cycle the trigger get reset by the Ram even if the trigger is still being pulled and lets the gun fire again. This is called sweet spoting and seems like it's on Fullauto but it is still Semi because the trigger is still being pulled for each shot. (This means the RT is legal in the UK) I have personally seen a good 98 with a RT clock in at 18 bps.

Now the E-Grig/Trigger is an electronic board that gives you 3 basic modes of fire; Semi, Semi Assisted (Aka Ramping), and Auto (this includes bursts). In Semi the gun only Fires when the trigger is pulled and will not fire again till it is relased. Now a good player with a Tippmann can probably pull that trigger about 10 times a sec. So in Semi we would see 10 shots a sec. Now in Semi Assisted the board will add extra shots ,1 pull equals 1.5 shots, so the gun would fire 15 times in a sec this also depends on how the board is programed. The Auto modes will go at what ever the board is set at. What realy hurts this in speed is that it still has to trip the sear.(Alot of electronic upgrades and boards are illegal in the UK beacuse of the Auto modes)

The thing that slows both the RT and the E-Grip is the sear will catch the hammer before the gun fires again. The other is that your hopper will only feed paint into the gun so fast and you get what you pay for they say.

Now the max that I have seen a Tippmann go is 28 cps and that was not feeding paint or letting the sear catch the hammer. So in theory the max you can get a Tippmann going is 28 bps because of it's design.

I hope that this helped some with out more confusion

Tippmann used to offer an install service for the old Model 98 RT.

The different is that the 98 C already has the internal space for the parts molded into it.
The M98 requires this space to be milled out.

So in otherwords if you have a CNC milling machine, you can do it. Thats what I thought, that the m98's arn't milled for it.

You can do it with a dremel if you wanted to bad enough, but some of it needs to line up nicely.

It's basicalle the two indentation in each half of the grip frame for the cylinder, the hole up front for it to poke the trigger, the channel for the internal air hose, and the holes in the side of the gun, both at the power tube end and at the grip end.

If I was going to do this, I'd pick up a used 98C for 60$ or so and not worry about it. It's the easy way out.

yes your luck in that respect. But it's kind of a pain to work on the 98 shells because safely mounting them is a pain and the best way to mount them is on a fixture plate.
You can find a good design for a fixture plate for both shells Here... But those are realy ment for milling the outside of the shells

with the super RT mod (bigger hoses/fittings) the RT can achieve max BPS of like 28-30

The norm for a regular rt is around 5.68 (because some the balls break inside the barrel lol)

Woah, what?
Five BPS?

The RT can go well above that, all you have to do it get a hopper good enough to feed the paint fast enough.

The super RT mod is just that, a mod. It involves using bigger air lines and well, honestly it's not really worth it in my opinion. There's a short blurb about it in the RT thread, part of the tippmann super sticky.

I can't believe you're getting a response trigger after that WAS board comment. Anyone who thinks a responce trigger is better than an e-trigger is crazy go nuts!

Get an ebolt - RT sucks IMO. I found one out on ebay just listed tonight. They are very hard to come by. Thinking of bidding on it myself

eBay: NEW Tippmann 98 Custom E-bolt upgrade Tipmann ebolt RT (item 190097763705 end time Apr-04-07 20:30:05 PDT)

One option is to see if any other players at your local field have Tippmanns with either upgrade installed. Perhaps you can ask to try them out at the chrono range, get a feel for the upgrades, and then make a decision. These forums provide very detailed information, but in the end, it is your choice. I personally use a RT, but I am not against other upgrades.
