Barrels 101

hi guys, new to the site but have been reading through it for the past 2 weeks...i've been searching for barrel information and basically only find info on the flatline, the search engine just isn't working out for me... so i thought hopefully all barrel information could be put here.

i have a 16" CP barrel on my old tippmann, and it's still pretty accurate for a 10-15 year old gun with a $30 barrel.
i've been searching for a good barrel for my A-5 though, and i don't particularly care for the FlatLine.

I've been searching for threads on comparisons of barrels to no avail...and no info on battle stixx or straight line barrels, and those are the 2 i'm most interested in.

i've heard good things about j&j ceramic barrels but haven't seen these in real life.
i've read that rifling has no real effect on paint balls, dunno how true that is or not...or maybe spiral rifling has no effect, i dunno...hopefully you guys can enlighten me and perhaps many others as to what you guys recommend and the pros and cons to each and then some. thanks guys
-Bill

If you're happy with your CP, then there's no reason to upgrade unless you're getting a barrel kit

No type of rifling helps paintballs

Not AZN level price, there's not too many electro markers priced at the same level as the Talon.

the CP is fine for the old pre-98 tippman, but i also have an A-5 with a stock barrel, and i'm exploring options, looking at freaks, J&Js, hammer heads, straighlines

out of all those i'd take the J&J hands down. the quality of those barrels for the price you get them at, is unbeatable

If you're going to get another cheap barrel for the A5, then yes, J&J all the way

J&J Elite Edge Kit will be the best you can buy IMO

Will run you about $150

k, been looking at the J+Js. i see the elite edge kit for $150... i also see the standard J+J which comes 12, 14, or 16"...and the A5 S2 barrel that only comes 12".

is the barrel(s) in the elite edge kit the same ones as i just mentioned? but with sizers added? or are they diff? and would the standard j+j barrel or the s2 be a better barrel? i figured a 14" would be better for accuracy...but the S2 only comes in 12"...any help?

Barrel length does nothing for accuracy, just for the quietness of your shot

The Elite Edge kit comes with different sized backs so you can match your barrel to your paint size

And the regulat J&J barrel and the S2 barrel are no different, the S2 just looks different
