98 custom won't cock... help

I just bought a 98 custom and put a full co2 tank on it and when i fire it, the bolt doesn't cock back all the way. I can re-cock it by hand and it will fire again, but it won't re-cock itself. what's wrong?

when is the last time you lubed it?

is the air tank nearly empty?

i haven't lubed it very recently but it slides pretty freely, and I just filled the co2 tank. it wouldn't be that the spring behind it was pushing too hard would it?
